Gamers buy what their friends recommend

It's true. I got a group of Lan Buddies that don't have internet. I'm their source for new games, cause we generally have the same taste. Sometimes they would phone me up from a game store and ask me if this or that is a good game and buy accordingly!

Same with me, sometimes I would go on what a friend says and it usually pays off!

The opinions of friends are a lot more personal and relevant than some random person's review. Your friends should know your interests and are therefore more qualified to make recommendations.

I don't know, some of my friends have appalling taste in games (DotA, Counter-Strike), so I can't say I look to them for recommendations much. I usually know by the time a game releases if it's something I'm interested in, simply because I read loads of stuff about incoming games all the time. I'll usually drop by Metacritic first, though, just to check that there's no catastrophic problem with the game.

+1

Metacritic is my first stop when deciding which games to buy. My friends just don't have the same taste in games as I do.

Often though I am one of those impulse buyers who buy things when it's on special. Mediocre game for R50? I'll take it! :D

Download a game from somewhere, If it Keeps me Busy for more than 15min, I might decide to go buy it, or wait until it is on special.

I spose for you friends to recommend games you need friend in the first place *giggle* I agree though, and it's a lesson software and game developers could learn. Just look at Win 7. Word of mouth is big - so to speak.

So you pirate a game and if YOU deem it good enough you MIGHT buy the actual game?

Something like that. But usually Let a friend buy a game 1st. Check it out at his place. if it is good I will buy it.

MW2 was a fail since they Released the news of no dedicated servers.

That is one Good Example of a game that lots of ppl also did not buy only because of word by mouth....

+1 again. Metacritic is my first stop to get an idea of how well a game has been received. I do listen to my friends mind you, but I will always go double check on Metacritic.

I see how snuck in an insult to the DotA and CS players there Azi :D They are probably more competitive types, in which case, DotA and CS would have great appeal to them.

I must be one of those exceptions.
My choice in games is determined by personal taste, [Or lack thereof and having enjoyed the demo.], price and to a lesser extent by online reviews. [Metacritic is usually helpful]

Only once in a while do I see a game which interests me being played at my friend's house.

Oh, I don't begrudge them their fun, of course. I just don't think they have souls.

;P
