CAN GAMES TRAIN YOU FOR 'HEAVY' SITUATIONS
Games are far more useful than they are made out to be.
Here are 3 examples of how they helped me.
1. A Car Chase
I'm not going to go into the whole story but basically a group of gangsters almost ran
me off the road when I tried to overtake which led to me flipping them the bird. They
didnt take kindly to this and gave chase. They were in a BMW and I was in a Tazz.
To be honest I was kaking myself but I swear all I could see in my head as I took each
corner at speed was, that behind the car view in GTA IV and everytime I thought of the
countless car chases I had been in in GTA IV I felt a slight calm until the BMW's
headlights lit up my rearview mirror until the next corner. Thanks to simlple logic (or
racing games?) I knew that the BMW and Tazz were more of a match on corners and I would
be toast on long straights so I stuck to those and eventually got away, or they just
gave up and decided to go find some ho's.
2. a shotgun blast
I am a videographer so I get commisioned to film all sorts of cool and not so cool
stuff. The beginning of this year saw the SAPS get a few bus loads of new recruits and I
have been hired to document their training right through to graduation.
We all know what happens when you pull the trigger on a shotgun right? A moerse bang and
then the target is turned to confetti. I had never seen a shotgun in action in real life
before but I knew what to expect. Long story short the guy who is supposed to pull the
trigger starts crying, I kid you not. He is scared of what is going to happen and the
noise it will make. Guess he never played an FPS before.
3. Paintball
If you play Battlefield, Call of Duty or any other decent military multiplayer game and
your fitness is average or above. YOU. WILL. OWN.
Well at the very least you will do way better than you expect. Give it a go if you
haven't and you'll see. The tactics you use in game work in real life too, its amazing.
Battlefield players will probably do better than Modern Warefare players. Just sayin.
I also found a really interesting article about this game training concept.

Games have also been used to educate people, train doctors and assist with the healing
process. Just google Video Games assist healing.
If you have any experiences, thoughts or any other useful links to check out, please share!
Thanks
