The first games I remember playing on PC were Police Quest 1 (the text-based one) and Minesweeper on Windows 3.1. Back then I hated Windows with a passion. Even during Windows 95 days I used to boot to DOS to do most things (which consisted 99% of the times of playing games).

Other than that I loved:
- Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Fathers (I still want to play the recent remake)
- Ski or Die
- Pagan: Ultima 8 (the immersion was incredible - you could throw DARTS!)

Man, we played Duke 3D during the early days of the computer club at my old high school. Good times.

Bud, many an hour was lost to that game... I even remember playing that multiplayer with just a keyboard. Then came Quake 1 and the good old ball mouse

- Pagan: Ultima 8 (the immersion was incredible - you could throw DARTS!)

I wanted to mention that game, but the truth is I could really never figure out the mechanics. I think I got fairly far into it once, but I was really terrible at the combat. The saving and loading was extremely slow on my PC at the time, and you died really quickly.

That intro though.

Most of these made an impact but more notable to me personally was Street Rod and California Games :) I lost plenty hours on those before windows based gaming ( Half life / Starcraft / warcraft / Counter strike ) really took over for me, then once the first edition of Dota was out I have kinda been lost in that for how ever many years of gaming now

O the memories.

The first game I remember playing was Digger in the late 80s/early 90s on our first 286. I was one of the "cool kids" that had a grayscale monitor, not one of those ghastly green or yellow monochrome ones

Man I loved Street Rod and Street Rod 2. RPG mechanics (for your car!) in a racing game? Next level, man.

Yeah man Street Rod 2 was epic ! and then you race the illusive james dean looking dude with the chick in that black corvette ( i think it was a vette ) and you blow your engine and hate your life haha

when I saw warcraft I got the warm and fuzzies, also Pagan 8 was amazing I tried to finish it but never could was just too complex, I picked it up again like 10 years ago when I had to use a dos emulator to play it, played finished thoroughly enjoyed.

PC gaming was nowhere when I was a child, it was left to the likes of a ZX Spectrum or a Commodore 64 for gaming. My ZX Spectrum favourites were:
  • Elite
  • Manic Miner
  • Jetset Willy
  • Ant Attack
  • Head over heels
to name a few.

The first game I bought for myself was Age Of Empires II - and I got it before I had a pc. So I would lie on my bed and imagine how it would be to play the game based on gameplay I saw of Age of Empires I.
Also played Hex? Think it was called that. FPS where you shoot demons/monsters.
So many other games I played on Dos on my grandfather's pc back in the 90's but I don't remember the names.
During high school Warcraft II dominated - I never played Warcraft I. And Diablo II. Don't know how many characters I completed the game with.

I haven't had such a gaming experience in recent years like I had back then...

Also played Hex?

Heretic and Hexen.

First game i bought after saving for months was F117 Stealth fighter 2. Got home and realized my EGA monitor doesn't make the requirements of at least a SVGA. Went back to the store and traded it for some harrier game which i couldn't even get off the ground.
