Games that reward you for thinking: "I wonder if I can...?"

I've been thoroughly enjoying the latest MyGame, Deus Ex Human Revolution and there has been one moment in particular that is a small but very cool highlight for me.

Making my way through a section I noticed that the security laser beams blocking off certain areas would turn off when a security guard came near them. Clearly he had a device or security chip on him that deactivated the beams when in proximity to them, allowing him to pass by without setting off the alarm.

The security guards path took him right past me so I knocked him out before he was aware of my presence. And then I thought: "I wonder if I can drag his unconscious body to the lasers thus deactivating them and allowing me to get past?" Sure enough I could do exactly that. It was a cool moment knowing that the game allowed for these kind of possibilities.

Of course, being an immersive sim, Deus Ex HR is one of those systems driven games that allow for multiple paths and play choices. Immersive sims tend to shine in this area.

What games have rewarded you for thinking "I wonder if I can..."?

Without a doubt, Breath of the Wild does this, and does this very well. The game doesn't tell you what you can and can't do, it allows you to explore and try things your own way.

One of the very first quests showed this. So you need to go to a shrine, but it's up a mountain, and it's cold. You don't have any cold gear, so you need to make a plan. The game doesn't tell you what to do. It's up to you to figure out. So I guess, well if I hold a lit torch up, it should give some warmth and protection against the cold. And sure enough, it did. But then the torch goes out. Well maybe I can light up a bush, and let it give me some warmth while I try to figure out what to do. Also, perhaps I can ignite one of my weapons with this bush. And sure enough each one of these methods work.

Almost every encounter in the game gives you a myriad of choices, and every time you think, I wonder if I can do that. Sure enough, you can, and it's awesome!!!
