Games that went free-to-play

Why do you say so? I've been playing GW2 since launch and find it exttemely polished and fun to play. Updates are constant and new content gets added often enough. For the R500 odd it cost it's tremendous value.

Compared to other premium MMOs the content just feels very lacking and underwhelming.

PvP has a thriving community, especially sPvP. It's where I spend most of my time anyway. I regard the PvE content and dungeon runs as training for PvP. Since a while back PvP even has reward tracks so you can earn the epic dungeon loot through rank points, which ensures the PvP community doesn't lose out on the gear.

AFAIK ArenaNet wants to push GW2 into the e-sports rings with the big focus on PvP. I can see it happening, as you need an insane amount of skill and practice to play your chosen class WELL.
