Gaming laptop brand advice please

Hi All,

I bought my son a MSI gaming laptop (i7, 16GB RAM, GTX 970M, 17" Full HD). Less than a year later the screen bezel has cracked - not surprising as the quality of the case and build are not great. Not what you want in a laptop that cost north of R25k. It also has noisy fans and get VERY hot.

I am about to buy another gaming laptop (let me preempt some advice by saying a desktop is not an option for us) and was wondering which brands have the best build quality. I would rather pay a premium for a better quality machine.

This time I am looking for a lower spec machine, probably 15.6" with a lower spec graphics card. I want to prioritise build quality in my decision and would very much appreciate some advice.

Bezel can be replaced at minimal cost and effort
 
Yeah, I would recommend the Asus brand, very solid. Also look at the range that Razer offers, albeit over priced but still great quality.

Thanks PsychoFish. I am going to get it repaired but wanted to check with more experienced gamers whether there were brands with better build quality.

Honestly, I swear by Dell (and by extension Alienware) for laptops. It mainly has to do with build quality and after sales support and warranties

I bought only Dell for years (starting in 1995 or so) when you could specify your build online and get them delivered. A few years ago I moved to Apple MacBooks for my work machine and stick by Apple (despite the price but because of the build quality, retina screen, and OS).

For gaming machines Windows is the only viable option obviously. I'll have a look at Alienware again thanks to your recommendation. I may have to downgrade the specs a bit to get the price reasonable but build quality and support are key factors.

Which MSI laptop was it? I have a GS70 Stealth Pro and I think it's great. Had mine for 8 months now and it still looks brand new...
 
I Like ACER and ASUS; since they have given me the least problems ever. I do not like Lenovo, HP or (heaven forbid) Mecer - not even interested to know if they do gaming laptops. :-)

Iv just got one of the new ASUS ROG top line gaming laptops, and i have to say my mind has been blown by this thing. And if a sturdy build is what you looking for, this thing is mostly metal, and SOLID. Might be a bit north of your price range to go with the one i have (30k+) but he ROG machines as a whole are simply fantastic. I never thought there was a machine that could compete with the Alienware, in looks, design, and specs, But the ROG machines have surprised me...
