Gaming laptops: should you look at buying one now?

Over R12000 isn't exactly affordable. You can likely get a similar spec'ed desktop for less than half that, and it's likely to perform a lot better despite the specs looking the same on paper.

Gaming laptops are really only for if you've got a lot of money to waste.

No, it's never been a good time to buy a gaming grade laptop.

They start out at double the price, with less upgrade options available and they age at double the speed because of minimal to no driver updates.

These aren't really gaming laptops. Just laptops with discreet gfx cards.

That was my thought. You'll need to drop R20,000+ for what I would consider a real gaming laptop. Personally, I would always recommend a desktop over a gaming laptop except in two situations.
1) You travel a lot and have cash to burn (ie, you already have a powerful gaming desktop)
2) Having a desktop is not an option for whatever reason.

I would rather get the new macbook pro and throw windows 8 onto it if your looking for a beast. So far the only laptop with IPS technology that I've seen.

The other issue is that as hardware improves you can replace components on desktop. With a laptop it generally means you need a new laptop.
Save money in short term= desktop
Save money in long term = desktop

Lol, what a crappy Mecer image, that isn't even the JW6. And the logo, was photoshopped badly on that image.
