Gamma Nine - Releases 1st of April - Info and Links

Might just have to get you a shirt or something if you keep it up. That remind me, maybe I should get shirts made. I wonder...
Lol! Well I'll be in your fan club at least, and I'm pretty chuffed to be part of your inaugural readership. It's awesome to see things like this coming out of SA. And I'll definitely recommend your book to friends.

I've read another chapter now, and it looks like we're ramping up to some action. It's been quite a smooth transition from world building to character building to action.

Agreed. The more readers the merrier thank you. Word of mouth is the best way of getting the word out on new things. Still the best marketing tool out there.

Lots of action to come if you are where I think you are.

I'm about 3 minutes from emergency BEAM drive shutdown

I can't believe I'm missing all this discussion because I'm so busy at work and I'm not even managing to open MyG during the day. :(

I started reading yesterday and I'm on Chapter 2 now and I am really enjoying it Spartan! I also love the prologue, it really did set the whole backstory really great.

Spoiler: show
@matt I also got a Dead Space vibe from the Beasts, which is actually really cool because I can now easily picture what they look like, or I'm adapting the Dead Space look into how I imagine them (for myself ofcourse).
For the Titans though, I didn't get a Mass Effect feel but more of a Terminator feel (from Dawn of War). Massive armored guys just wrecking shit.

I also noticed some mistakes here and there, but I just tend to notice things like that really quickly. It hasn't spoiled the immersion for me however, and I totally understand your point about it as well Spartan. I can't wait to read more and I'm sure I will also end up chewing my nails waiting for the second one.

I'll definitely be telling my brother to get this and a few other friends as well. Well done on the book bud, I hope word of mouth takes your book a long way.

As long as you are enjoying it. I am proud of my work and at the end of the day it gives me comfort to know that everyone likes it so far, and that even the best editors can only ever promise 90% perfection. If I am just even close to that, my formatting is good and here and there some mistakes slipped through every few thousand words, then I am happy.

Thank you for the compliments Blazzok, and thank you even more for the word of mouth sales, should they happen.

Ok, the action has started properly

Spoiler: show

The AIE was an interesting twist, I wonder who's behind it, I'm suspecting that Vincent character. It seems to me that there's a human either allied with the Beast, or using the Beast for his own diabolical purposes....

You will have to wait and see. Are you enjoying the fighting? All of the readers so far have said that my skill is with fight scenes and description. I am especially fond of the void battles. I want to explore on those more.

Just an update on the short story. It will be out soon. I did a quick cover, simplistic for a free release. Will be posting it soon with a link for a free download.

Ya, the fighting is coming across really well. As for the wait and see, I definitely don't want any clues or spoilers, just throwing my thoughts out there so you have an idea what's going on in the mind of a reader as the story progresses.

For instance:
Spoiler: show

Although the Beast does seem to have a higher and central consciousness and intelligence, individual infected seem to be pretty much mindless monsters, which would suggest either the aforementioned human theory, or a more intelligent incarnation of the Beast (maybe an intelligent infected, possibly without mutations so as to still pass as human), that we have not yet encountered.

I'm favouring the human theory, particularly the Vincent theory since he was so anti Titan, and the AIE mentioned something about the Titans being in its master's way. The big question at this stage being whether he is acting on his own or if he's allied with the Beast, and if he is allied with the Beast, how did that happen, how does he communicate with it, and what common goal could they possibly have? If he is attempting to use the Beast for his own purposes, then how could he possibly plan to control it or use it without wiping out all humans, himself included?

Spartan, you're right, you do have a knack for the fight scenes, and you've managed to keep momentum with it, which I imagine must be pretty hard to do. I'm at the part where
Spoiler: show
they find the big toothy monster in the reactor room

Thank you for that. There is a lot of it later on, you are really only at the first major part.

Spoiler: show

So looks like I was right about that Vincent guy, makes sense since he was the only villainous character that I've seen aside from the beast, not sure about his motivation yet, but that will no doubt be explained later, so far there's only hints that it's big and complex, and there's politics involved.

Are you a Mr Bean fan by any chance? Also LOL for the game console. That's a nice touch.

If I may offer a little constructive criticism, using contractions would make dialogue feel more natural. Seems a little formal when people say things like I am or you are instead of I'm and you're, etc, when they're talking to each other casually. Just my humble opinion, I'll leave it with you to use or not as you see fit.

I am a Mr. Bean fan. Grew up watching his shows. Roan Atkinson is a comedic genius.

I understand what you mean with contractions, sometimes it works sometimes it does not. Not using them seems heavier sometimes and my characters speak with weight. I know that sounds strange, and contractions have their place. But something as small as letting one character use them while another says every word, gives it another level of uniqueness. It also comes down to writing style. I prefer no contractions for most characters and in their dialogue, while others use only contractions. But I will tweak it a bit and maybe give more characters that option. You have a good point about casual conversation and formal emotional conversation. Though I do not have many casual segments in most of my story. Maybe certain characters were brought up with a different version of English. Who knows, the universe is still in its infancy and the more people like it the larger it grows.

Most of the time I also write without contractions, so mostly the author's personal preference is to blame.

I did notice the allusion to Mr Bean. Nice touch to bring in a couple of contemporary things.

I figured you might have considered that about the contractions, and it does make the dialogue weightier to say everything out in full, especially when speaking formally, it was just striking me as a little out of place when they're cracking a joke or something, probably because I do tend to use contractions when speaking, and by extension that's how I would write and how I would imagine people speaking when I read. Of course, as you say, it could just be how English is spoken in your universe, and of course your writing style is your writing style, so whatever works for you is the way it should be. My 2c worth anyway.

Finished the book. It was great, I really enjoyed it. Now I need some more to read! :D

If you haven't finished the book yet, don't read this spoiler.
Spoiler: show
I was surprised that the AIE didn't make an appearance again in this book, but I'm sure it still has a part to play.
The final part of the book is really tense with the fight on the ground and in the void.

Congrats once again on a great book. Can I rate the book on all of the sites where you're selling it, or just where I bought it?

Thank you! Aye yes you can rate it on any site, but standard practice is on the retailer you bought it from. I am guessing most of you bought it from Amazon. A rating or short review is more than I can ask for. If you want to rate on other sites as well, it is up to you.

I have almost started on Book 2. I am in the process of writing a short story called Artemis which takes place between book 1 and book 2. Yes, exactly, if you know what the name means then just wait a few days, no spoilers. And then I might write another after that.

Book 2 should be arriving January 2017. Maybe a little later if something pushes my schedule back. But I will release regular updates and teasers until then.

I agree with you. To some, like yourself, it would seem formal. I do want to cater to everyone. So I will maybe introduce the new characters with some extra quirks in them. I do not notice contractions because that is just how I read and write, but you do. Lovely little things like that is what makes the English language such a terrifying beast.

Anyone else finish it yet? The first official review comes out this Thursday and things are looking good. There will also be an exclusive interview the following week. Links coming soon!
