Pretoria - Violence erupted when pupils from a Pretoria West school attacked a group of boys from Langenhoven High School on Wednesday, leaving at least four pupils critically injured.
One was rushed to hospital with an ear cut off; another had a sharp instrument stuck in his back.
In what parents on Thursday termed gang-related violence, the boys from Pretoria West arrived outside the school gates in a taxi they had hired specifically for that purpose.

yislike so many voilent news articles about schools these past few months :-/

What would you expect the teacher/s to do? This is criminal behavior which the police should be dealing with

According to the rest of the article, the attack was motivated because of bullying at one of the schools, and this was in response to it. If anything, it sounds like it's definitely the schools/teachers fault for not responding correctly and ensuring the problematic pupils were suspended and dealt with before the situation escalated.

End of the day you drop your kids of at school and expect them to look after your kids. My opinion that includes trying to prevent these attacks not stopping them and I don't think some teachers care about kids anymore. When look at it, how often is it that action is only taken after the media is involved when teachers abuse their power, they ignore so much I believe it when they say there was bullying that was ignored. I wouldn't be surprised if this bullying was reported several times but only for it to be swept under the rug like so many other issues.

Agree the school should have dealt with the bullying, but to expect the teachers to stop panga wielding thugs is unfair.

Problem is...these days teacher are even more afraid of the students than other students....the right to administer corporal punishment has been taken away..there is no respect in the younger generation...and violence is always the answer...as they are never taught otherwise. The problem is that teachers today just don't care about teaching and school like in the old days...no passion. Its just a job...they not gonna do more or less than what they need to to survive...don't give a rats ass about the rest.

This is as a result of many different aspects of society gone horribly wrong..moral values gone out the window, respect and the rest no longer exists. Unfortunately there is no easy solution to this issue, its been boiling for a long time and getting worse, and everybody just been turning blind eye and hoping it goes away or becomes someone else problem.

Problems start at parents, through teachers etc and ends with government.... kids do what you do, not what you say...thats why "lead by example" is so important...what kind of role models do these kids have these days?.... you get in what you put out...

This is really sad...
