Remember the Xbox 360 spring dashboard update that gave Microsoft’s console the ability to read a new DVD disc format? Well it looks as if EPIC’s Gears of War 3 will be one of the first games to utilize the new format, dubbed, XGD3. If you choose to install Gears of War 3 on your Xbox 360 the game will use up 7.5 GB of HDD space, Examiner reports. The 7.5. GB installation is at least 700 MB more then the 360′s current DVD format holds.
The new XGD3 format will add 1GB to the disc by changing to a new anti-piracy method which requires less space. That still leaves around 550MB of space eaten up by system data. The new format will also change how DVD video is handled. Other games rumored to use the new XGD3 format are Driver: San Francisco, Warhammer 40000 Space Marine, Rise of Nightmares (Kinect), and Dead Island, although some copies of Dead Island may have shipped on the older XGD2 format.
Gears of War 3 will be released exclusively on the Xbox 360 September 20th.
