GeForce GTX 970 Design Flaw Caps Video Memory Usage to 3.3 GB: Report

So far no they aren't and I don't think they will.
Nvidia messed up big time and the card sux for super high res gaming but for 1080 and 1440 its fine and its still a lot of bang for your buck.
That said my 970 Hof will be here in the next 2 hours so will do some testing for you guys.

Well I'd really like to see/hear/read your thoughts on it. I have accepted half the cash for my current card already, pending full payment. So time is drawing near for me.

I'll send you my 970 EXOC and pay the difference, so about R200 :D

:D Neah lol

Cool bud, will test it over the weekend.
I'll most likely sell the card as well, as I'm only doing this to test it and get some of my own results.

Problem is I'm thinking of getting a new monitor though, and it sounds a bit wishy washy at 1440.

Also off topic but where can I go have a look at some monitors in Johannesburg and surroundings before pulling the trigger.

Well when you done, lemme know ;)

Will do bud.

I'll test it at every res available to me bud (Which includes 1440P @144Hz)

Monitors, you can just ask me bud.
I can tell you right off the bat what to avoid and what to look at.

Drop me a pm with your max budget and we'll go from there.

so you give the 970 a thumbs up then ? :)

For overclocking I've only used 1 970 (Which didn't belong to me) that beat this 1 which was a Gigabyte G1, that card ended up @ 1600 boost game stable on air but that's pretty rare most of them end up around 1450-1500. Memory wise they are all pretty much on par.

Gaming wise I've only played Assetto Corsa @ 1080P 120Hz completely maxed and didn't have any issues at all, will do 1440P and UHD over the next few days, will also test with BF4, Cod AW, Dying Light.

BeoTeK Yeah I've always said the 970 is an incredible card, the only thing I can't stand is the whole Nvidia memory thing.

I will however test this card @ every res available to me, I already know it'll struggle @ Uhd and 4K so not sure its worth doing those runs. As I've seen how Uhd/4K completely kills 970 sli..stuttering mess thanx to the shit memory config.

I had a long debate with some of the guys at lazygamer.net and they swear by the fact that you would never access that memory on that card. Basically, if you want to game at 4k res, u shouldn't be buying the 970 to start with. So that I can understand, but isn't it possible that games to come would use more memory for bigger image packs or something?

This is somewhat true but not completely. I game @ UHD often and I use 290X 4GB cards and everything I played ran fine, sure I had to drop some settings here and there but it wasn't an issue. 970 sli just pisses itself and dies in a corner @ UHD.

Good Grief! how does 970 SLI not handle this, is it purely cause of the memory issue?

Yip, as soon as you hit the 3.6GB mark in sli they just crawl and die @ UHD.
I'll test my single card this weekend and see how it runs, so far I've been running 1080P @120Hz without issues.

I've got to chime in again:

I think that if Nvidia had just sold the 970 as 3.5GB card instead of a 4GB card, it would have had the same ratings, the same benchmarks and been just as highly acclaimed, but without the silly "controversy".

100% correct.

Then again they wouldn't have sold as many, and I'm sure more people would have ended up just sticking to their older cards or upgraded to the 980.
