GeForce GTX cards – SA price, performance comparison

Basically ordered the ASUS Strix GTX 970 from Amazon, with expedited shipping, and got it delivered to my door for R5000. Why pay more for something locally when you can it from overseas shipped to your door for less? Local retailers need to be competitive. And had I chosen the cheaper shipping option it would have cost me R4500. Cmon guys.

Can't you SLI two (2) Nvidia GeForce GTX Titan Blacks? Would be cheaper than ONE Titan Z.

Let me know how it goes when it needs to be rma'd. ;)

So you save yourself R1000 but you have no local warranty (Asus SA will not honor it)
You will sit without a gpu for weeks when it goes wrong.
You'll have to pay shipping again to send it back when it goes wrong.
When sending it back, the package gets damaged and the card gets a scratch or a dent on it, Amazon will void the warranty and you'll have no card.

That's why you pay a R1000 more.

While I also want the local warranty I do agree with Sparks point of the local retailers need to be more competitive... They do tend to put a massive mark up on new imports...

That Titan Z is ridiculous though... What kind of applications are you running to justify that? I work with 3D animation everyday and its pretty GPU intensive, but I cant see how a card with that price tag could improve anything that drastically that it warrants 3 times the price of its next step down...

The problem though is that you can't compare American markets to ours, you just can't expect our retailers to compete against American retailers when they sell 50 cards a day and our guys sell that over 3 months.

I'll do a thread about the above when I get some time.
People don't seem to realize how the SA hardware market works.

Pretty much spot on.

Look I have to say i didnt think about it from the volume point of view... We are a drop in the ocean of hardware sales compared to first world countries I suppose...

Would be interested in hearing what you have to say;)

Jip, it screws with everything in SA, we need a middle man for most things just to make it feasible for us to import the stuff. It however makes things unfeasible for consumers.

I want to see the reaction on Sparks Legend's face when the card has a problem. R800 saving is not worth the money spent trying to send it back to Asus in the UK.
