General gaming chit chat.

I went to check out this Destiny of Ancient Kingdoms game since there was an article posted on the MyGaming front page - goodness me, this is not a good example for South African development.

The worst part is that they clearly lack a decent writer, fortunately MyGaming made it clear that this wasn't their article as it definitely does not seem to have been proofread at all. Funny enough the comments section is locked on the article page - I wonder if they knew that the responses would not be pleasant.

That is pretty terrible. If they're going to do advertising like that, the least they could do is mark it as such.

It's clearly marked as partner content in the headline image, and a disclaimer is provided above and below the article.

How much more clear does it need to be?

Why call it partner content when it's clearly advertising? Call it what it is.

That was my first thoughts as well... why lock comments unless you're expecting the worst and backlash from the community?!

But it's amazing and just proof once again that you can write what you like as long as you're paying for the article.

Very badly written page indeed. But I'm with Jan on this one, it's CLEARLY stated 3 times that the article is not MyGaming but rather their advertising partner.

It's to differentiate it from "normal" display/banner advertising.

That's what we decided to call native advertising / advertorial on MyBroadband, drawing on the examples set by international publications. In fact, we mark things far more clearly than some publications do.

"Partner" immediately implies a commercial arrangement of some sort, so the name seemed to fit.

This is the future of free online content. It helps keep MyGaming running and hopefully means we will be able to afford to do some cool stuff for the community in future.

Journalist my ass.

Insulting our staff, much like insulting other forumites, is not something I'm going to take lightly.

Vicky handles all our partner content, and she also assists in sending out your prizes after I draw winners.

Feel free to disagree with what we do or how we do it, but be nice.

So, not a journalist then, that was my point, no offense intended.

I find that difficult to believe given your word choice.

She is a journalist. That's also what her job title says.

I'm beginning to lose my temper, so I'm done discussing this here for now.

Why? This is a general discussion, revolving gaming, the website and the content thereof... this is an open forum/debate.

Indeed it is, but yeah, the words used and the way in which it's handles are not how things should be done. Attaching an employee of MyGaming WITHOUT KNOWING ANYTHING of her is just plain wrong.

Incorrect. Vicky is a MyBroadband employee and definitely a journalist.

Then I am sorely mistaken and I will humbly apologise. But like you said Jan, a "partner" and in that sense I drew conclusion for it to be purely based on financial gain.

No harm, no foul. I'll try to explain roughly how things work after I've had some breakfast and cooled off.
