Getting my PS3 connected to the internet

I've never done this, because I've never felt the need to, but now I'd like to get the patches for Dark Souls, since it changes so much in the game.

Can someone please explain to me how we get our PS3 connected? Do I just need an ethernet cable, then plug it into our ADSL modem, as well the PS3, or is there more to it?

It's as simple as that ;).

If you're gonna use an ethernet cable then just connect your PS3 to your router, go to your network settings on the PS3 and auto-scan for all the settings.
 
PS3 should have WiFi if you have a WiFi router. If you go to network settings and choose wireless it should pick up the wireless network, and you just need your security passphrase
 
PS. All the above is assuming that you're using DHCP, and not assigning static IP addresses. If you're using static IP's, you'll need to assign the PS3 an IP address that's in range.

Most likely if you're on an ADSL router, you'll be using DHCP though, so it's probably not an issue.

I just activated the Wi-Fi, set up the connection to my router with the pass key and voila! Internet! I've since sold it and bought an XBOX, so much more WIN!
 
I found it to be very simple to connect my PS3 to my WiFi router. Turn on PS3, connect to network, enter Router's password, and there you are.
 
To play multiplayer games via PSN the best is to place your PS3 into the DMZ zone on your router if it has one. This way you won't have many problems when playing multiplayer. The way to check this is when you do the internet settings test your connection will be rated as a NAT2 connection. NAT3 is not preferred.

You guys were about 4 days away from being called thread-necromancers. But still, I'm going to leave this here :)

or instead of DMZ and worrying about NAT. You can log in via PPPoE with your ISP details. It fixes all NAT problems. I did it for FIFA and no problems since.
