God of War 4 available for pre-order at BT Games

No because pre-order has been announced with at least a tentative release date. Other than a few rumours from the bowels of the interwebz God of War 4 doesn't exist outside of a Design Document or Theorycraft doc somewhere on some dev's iPad.

Yes but look at Diablo - Theres still no official release date and most retailers are sold out of at least the Collectors editions these items do not exist yet but they have been sold.

I'm not saying that I agree with advertising a title so far in advance without all the details but I personally dont think that there is anything wrong with them doing it.

Didnt they do the same thing with Starcraft and Diablo?

Diablo 3 has a tentative release date, Q2 2012. Its actually had a few. Same with Star Craft 2, long before it was released pre-orders flared up, but for the most part it at least had a tentative release date. God of War 4 hasn't even been announced yet, that's like you putting up pre-orders for a title I'm just starting to write a design doc for.

As the credit crunch tightens Retailers need to be very careful. The UK's largest gaming retailer learned this the hardway yesterday. They where denied credit to purchase Mass Effect 3 from EA. As a result they can't deliver on the thousands upon thousands of Mass Effect pre-orders causing their shares to drop by 15% in less than an hour.

LoL OF It also had a tentative release for Q4 2011.

We choose ourselves to only put up pre-orders until when we have full details from the local distros. - which of course can still change just before release - Batman springs to mind
But I still dont see anything wrong with advertising God Of War 4 - if as they say they have got their facts right.

A Pre-Order is basically a contract between the Retailer and the Customer guaranteeing that when the Pre-ordered Item becomes available the Retailer will provide the Customer with the Item granted the Customer has paid for the item, right? How can a retailer guarantee the customer a product that hasn't been announced yet & may never be announced?

I'm taking order for the Playstation 12, would you like to Order one?

As of now its to early to say that they are in breach of any contract or that they will be??

I think its a bit of a gamble on their part but maybe they are privie to information that nobody else is - wasnt it the Move release date that they also were the first to announce world wide and I think they were right there?
