Good RTS Titles

It has been a while since I took on a really good RTS game. I know it's not everyone's cup of tea, but I was wondering if there are any games that you would recommend.

I'm looking for something other than the mainstream, i.e. SC2, AoEO, etc. Are there any titles out there worth my time and money? The help is much appreciated!

The original supreme commander was epic. It had HUGE scale battles, naval warfare and super weapons! One of my favorites.

Agreed.

Also try World in Conflict (don't know if that's considered mainstream or not), that kept me hooked all the way through and I'm not even that much of an RTS fan.

Order of War is apparently pretty awesome as well.

Soldiers - Heroes of WW2 will blow your mind. It's probably about R50.00 nowadays. amazing rts.

There were some old titles like: Act of war, Dune etc you could prob pick em up for cheap cheap

Depends how complicated you want it... The men of war series is fantastic.... If you done mind a bit of a challenge.

You can micro manage like commandos or high level strategy like CoH

Yes and no , it is a bit mainstreamed but I thoroughly enjoyed the c&c3's & redalert 3
But in all seriousness avoid C&C4 like a plague lol, unless you think it's your kind of game

Why would you not want to play SC2, the single player campaign is really fun. Other games I would recommend;

Dawn of War 1/2 and DLCs
Company of Heroes
Anomaly Warzone Earth (reverse tower defence)
C&C 3
Red Alert 2
Rise Of Nations
Age of Empires Online

Turn Based:
Any Total War game (Empire, Rome, Shogun, Napoleon, Medieval)
Civilization 4/5
Frozen Synapse

I have played this one, yes. Really enjoyed it. It really did get hectic, a lot to manage.

No, it's not turn-based. It's a very good RTS.

City of Heroes is definitely good - I can second that! One of my favourite RTS games would have to be Age of Empires Online. Additionally, Ramacity is kinda cool, and so is World of Warplanes. There are so many strategic games available - it's hard to choose one!
