Goodbye 8800GT?

i hope it does. i did some testing with gpu-tool's stability test and each time once my core temp hit 80c the system stalled and crashed. so i can only conclude that over all these years the card just cant handle these temps anymore.
 
well it just crashed at 66c. this thing is done for. im back on the onboard gpu,which means until i can afford to replace it, im stuck with a glorified media pc. i payed R2700 for this thing. im never buying nvidia again.
 
Mine also kicked the bucket about 3 months back. Luckily the 2 year warranty was still in place so I got a gtx260. My old creative 3d card is still churning out directx 5 graphics, they don’t make them like they used to.
 
btw, nvidia didn't stop producing the cards.
they only manu the silicone chips(even though they do OEM versions on small scale)

It's there partners like Palit etc that are having financial problems, that we not getting the cards atm. nVidia have sold all silicone chips up to date
 
I'm thinking of trying the oven bake fix. First need to get some decent research done and find a place that sells thermal paste at a reasonable price.
 
Right, so I popped it in the oven at 200c for 8 minutes as per instructions. Now waiting for it to cool down so I can apply the paste and re-attach the heatsink. Then to testing...
 
Okay so I just did a stress test for 10 minutes with no crashes. The card topped out at 83c. Now I don't want to speak too soon, but this might have actually worked. Going to run a few games now for variety. Fingers crossed. :)
 
Looks to be working man. I just ran Dragon Age with zero stalls. :D

I'll give it a few more days before I get complacent but it looks like the oven fix actually fixed it. :D
