Google Cardboard

My order has been recieved, and is now awaiting payment, Im guessing because I did an EFT and I am with Standard Bank and they're with FNB, they will only get the funds tomorrow. Then they will only process it =/

Ya I was very surprised that I had to do and etf, but I am with fnb so it would have been instant... very wierd that they had no online payment facility...

Could'nt wait for overseas one to arrive so I also ordered another from robotics.
With courier, probably be delivered tomorrow.

Just got mine :D

The Windy Day app really is cool! Im seriously impressed, although its very basic, you can see a lot of potential!

The you tube app is loads of fun with voice searching...

Just WOW! So much awesomness!

Awesome ! That was quick, my order is now awaiting courier so will most likely get it on Monday. Is the app only for Android ?

Would be nice to have it for the weekend. I have a Lumia so don't think its on the windows mobile store yet. I do have a 5th gen Ipod though and my roommate has a S4, so will make a plan.

Just remember that the Google Cardboard app is not the only app working with cardboard.
I've tried Tuscany Dive which worked pretty well and then you can also check out chrome-experiments if you have a chrome browser installed on your phone.

I tried some of the Chrome experiments, but found it very lacking compared to the cardboard app... Tuscany Dive will have a look at though ;-)

Just got mine delivered :D

Will give it a bash tonight

Their service is really good, I didn't expect mine to arrive as quickly as it did...

Anyone tried with yify 3D movies yet?

Here's my reply from earlier in the thread when you asked:

No I haven't. Yify is a movie release group, right? If it is, the movies should be a standard SBS file so it will work. There is just that irritating issue of the image being a bit too big so the corners are out of view. But I'm going to try something tonight that may help a bit. I'll report back if it does.

It doesn't matter who ripped the movie. All SBS 3D movies are the same so it will work. Here's my experience with 3D movies (I also explain exactly what a 3D movie is):

So I received my Google Cardboard today. With excited glee I assembled it, only to find that my phone in not 100% compatible with the apps. Currently I am using a LG G2 Mini because I "distributed" my HTC to the community of South Africa, and the LG's performance is just bad. There is no real gyroscopic movement at all, and I can only seem to move my head up and down. That makes navigating the menu quite difficult. So now I wait for my S4 replacement phone from work to test again.

Play Skyrim 3D With Google and Nexus 5

Anyone with a Nexus 5 smart phone and Google Cardboard can experience The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim in 3D, using a simple app and streaming hardware.

After Google's initial Cardboard reveal, in which it unveiled an experimental, cheap way to experience smart phone apps in virtual reality, users began trying new approaches with the makeshift system. By using the cardboard rig, a Nexus 5 (or perhaps other high-end smart phone) and Trinius Gyre, a streaming app that handles the streaming information and sensor data, users can experience Skyrim in 3D, according to Geek.

Skyrim isn't the only game that this trick can be used on –– any number of apps can be experienced likewise. According to Geek, lag may be a problem, but that is only a result of aging network technology.

Got mine last week and it is really cool, still very rough but you can see the potential. As soon as we can stream some games (like above) it will be really awesome.

Saw earlier in the thread that you have a Lumia. Any idea of apps in the WP Store that support this?

I checked but could not find any. If I can get a demo working in Unity i will post a link.

I played around a bit last night with Xperia C 5" (no gyro sensor)

The Google cardboard app is practically useless if you don't have a gyro sensor.
You will not be able to navigate menu and the magnet button did not work.

I tried the Dive rollar coaster. Works ok with no gyro sensor (can only look up and down)
- Tip: If you try coaster with phone with no gyro sensor hold the phone the same way you would when taking a photo. This will insure that your view is locked in centre and you can then look up and down.

Also tried a Yifi SBS 3D movie on a my lumia 1320 6" - Screen is way to big the screens dont overlap correctly

Tried a random youtube 3D video on Xperia C 5" . Ok but feels abit to close.

To my suprise my old Xperia Arc 4.2" came in as the winner with SBS videos. Just the correct distance from the screen and overlay was perfect. Just need to try with higer resolution quality

Make sure you check out this super awesome video! (download video's to phone instead of streaming;))
