Google Cardboard

I checked but could not find any. If I can get a demo working in Unity i will post a link.

I played around a bit last night with Xperia C 5" (no gyro sensor)

The Google cardboard app is practically useless if you don't have a gyro sensor.
I will not be able to navigate menu and the magnet button did not work.

I tried the Dive rollar coaster. Works ok with no gyro sensor (can only look up and down)
- Tip: If you try coaster with phone with no gyro sensor hold the phone the same way you would when taking a photo. This will insure that your view is locked in centre and you can then look up and down.

Also tried a Yifi SBS 3D movie on a my lumia 1320 6" - Screen is way to big the screens dont overlap correctly

Tried a random youtube 3D video on Xperia C 5" . Ok but feels abit to close.

To my suprise my old Xperia Arc 4.2" came in as the winner with SBS videos. Just the correct distance from the screen and overlay was perfect. Just need to try with higer resolution quality

Make sure you check out this super awesome video! (download video's to phone instead of streaming;))

Mouks, can you do us a favor? You ordered a unit from overseas and a local one from Micro Robotics, if I recall? When you have both will you compare them, please? I'm especially interested to know how the lenses of the two compare or if they are identical. Thanks in advance.

Oh and for the 3D movies, zoom out a bit (if the player allows it). This will fix a few of the issues you have.

It seems the one from micro robotics is not the original Google Cardboard, its a replica that's just copied the cut out design... Correct me if im wrong, but do any of yours have any google branding on them? Coz mine doesn't... And there seem to be a lot of replicas...

Mine also doesn't have any branding at all. The original also doesn't have any Google branding on it, but does include the instructions printed on the box. Also has a bigger sticky strip than the one Micro Robotics is selling.

Mine has no branding on it either, it still works perfectly though so I'm not phased.

Just want to some Lumia apps to start coming out so I dont have to use my GF's phone.

Ya look im also not phased, Its just a template... you can actually download it and make your own if you wanted...

Test Results On Galaxy SII (Sensors - Accelerometer, gyro, proximity, compass)

Google Cardboard App Unavailable

Dive Apps give error after trying to install : Unable to save to SD card or something
Some of the app installed successfully but forces close after a few seconds

With hopefully test on S4 tonight

S3 Mini works perfectly for me, even the magnet "button", used a normal S4 and it worked well except the magnet button didn't work at all.

I do still wonder how the magnet button works... Strange that it didnt work on your S4 though... It works perfectly on my S4 mini...

My Xperia Z's magneto meter sits on the "wrong" end of the phone. If I remove the magnet and swipe it on the other side, it gets picked up.

I just received my own unit and whilst the 3d is great the lenses are of too low a quality for good viewing. Also one lens came covered in glue which was also very annoying.

So I received my Google Cardboard today. With excited glee I assembled it, only to find that my phone in not 100% compatible with the apps. Currently I am using a LG G2 Mini because I "distributed" my HTC to the community of South Africa, and the LG's performance is just bad. There is no real gyroscopic movement at all, and I can only seem to move my head up and down. That makes navigating the menu quite difficult. So now I wait for my S4 replacement phone from work to test again.
I would like to order one but I currently have an LG G3. Now I'm not worried about the head tracking because this phone is a beast. What I am worried about is whether it's 5.5inch size is going to be a problem. I can't seem to see what size the unit from Micro Robotics is. Based on your experience with it, do you think it will fit alright?

Your G3 should be 100% fine. Looking at it's stats, it's got all the required sensors needed for full utilization. Also I would say that the unit will be able to fit in the Google Cardboard as well. I think you'll be able to fit a phone of up to 5.5" in there.

Awesome thank you kindly for the reply. Going to go order mine :)

I would be a bit worried about that size... My S4 Mini fits in and fits in well... Mister 44 says on page 1 that his Sony Xperia Z (according to GSMArena, the size is 139 x 71 x 7.9 mm) is the perfect fit... So just check the size of your phone first...

Its not the end of the world if it is a bit big, its cardboard after all, and you can cut it with a Stanley knife for a better fit...

Yeah I think at the price it is currently at it warrants a test. Does anyone know where I could get glass lenses? Amazon? eBay? (I'm going to have a look around later.. at work currently)

Funny that, mind came with filthy lenses as well... real pain to clean off the "glue" or what ever it was?

Iv only managed to find on Amazon, but the shipping is retarded... I think maybe if we all club in and get a few set of glass lenses it will be better? Im keen if other guys are?

I tried Hall of fears Demo using a friends S4.

One of the best VR apps I've tried so far. This felt like the real deal. You explore dark hallways in search of 10 cubes.

You need an OTG cable to connect game controller to move farward, backward and jumb.
I used a PC controller (did not check PS3 controller yet)

You need to strap cardboard to your head. I still need to find a better way of doing this.
I just had a band around my head but the phone + cables (controller/earphones) weighs the phone down.
A 3rd strap over the head should do the trick.

Hey guys I've found a way to stream games to my phone in side by side 3D. Obviously it won't have head tracking capabilities just yet, but I'm going to write a blog post or something detailing how it is done. I have yet to test it on Google Cardboard (still awaiting my unit's delivery). Anyone interested in finding out how to do it? ;)
