Google is killing its Drive desktop app

sigh. Google is starting to annoy me. The keep killing stuff...how am I supposed to rely on that...

Yeah I hope backup and sync is decent. I really like the way Drive and Photos work now.

If they fundamentally change how Photos works, Pixel users are going to be mad. One of the big selling points of that was free storage of uncompressed photos in the Google cloud.

Actually above 16 megapixel it'll silently compress your photo. So it can screw up your high res photo library without you even realising if you're not careful.

It's stuff like this that made me go "fk it...I'll pay the Apple tax"

On Pixels too? I remember it was a big deal that for Google Pixel users they get free unlimited cloud storage for their photos in maximum quality.

You're right - Seems they did indeed include an exemption for pixel phones since I last checked. Not sure why though: Pixels have 12MP cameras so they're fine vs the 16MP limit.

Take a bottom range DSLR like my Nikon D3200 though...that's at 24MP. If you're shooting RAW as well then it quickly gets out of hand.

You can force it to keep originals & deduct in from storage now it seems:

To be perfectly honest I'll likely continue to use both google and icloud - the cost is trivial & need the google enterprise a/c for email domain anyway. Will just mirror it on both clouds for backup
