So I got a bit of cash for my birthday and I finally got round to spending it.

I got me some of these

They aren't super top-end but pretty decent I think, and are mere stereo rather than surround sound, and wired, so lots of cables, but OMG, the difference between this and the TV speakers is staggering. It's like going from a CRT TV to an HD TV, but for my ears.

I've been toying with the idea of getting a nice headset for a long time, and finally actually bit the bullet, and I'm glad I did. It's awesome.

And they will work on Xbox, PS3, and PC

Lol I'm the same way, pay R100 more to have it NOW. They sound pretty awesome from what you're saying. I'd really like a pair and I need a mic for my xbox so I will consider this. It's a bit pricey though. But consider it I will.

I believe there are cheaper sets available, but I think Tritton's are a good brand, and I liked that they work on all 3 platforms. The Tritton 120's are a bit cheaper as well, but they don't work on PS3, which is a pity. If you want wireless, and/or surround sound, then I think you only start talking at about R1500.

I have the 720. Bought it from TOP CD coz I was also impatient. I know people complain about some issues with their Tritton headsets, but I haven't so far. Very good piece of tech.

These are what I use. Had 'em for a while. They're lightweight, and pack a serious punch.

In-line mic and Volume Controller as well.

Also have the in-ear/sound isolating earphones, for my phone. And they're quite decent as well.

They do look lekker, and probably lighter than the ones I got by the look of them
Admittedly, they can get uncomfortable at times, especially when I wear them over a hoodie. What happens is ... Becos they don't sit firmly on my head when I have a hoodie on, they tend to slip and slide. And it pushes again my ears, against my glasses, making it at times even more uncomfortable. Other than that... One of the best earphones I have owned ;)

To be quite honest I think you can ask for a voucher for that R100 . cpa states what you see online should be the store price as well?

Not really, the physical store and the online store are separate businesses and get different prices from suppliers. I'm pretty sure it also says on the website that they are just the web prices, and aren't the same as in the store.

Yeh. Sometimes store prices are cheaper than online, and the other way around. But mostly seen better prices online.

Did these play in game sound and allow game chat at the same time? How much and did they graft on your PS3?

Yep, they do in-game sound, and chat at the same time. I haven't tried it on the PS3 as yet, but they are compatible, which is why I got them. I just need to get myself a new PS3 game one of these days to try it out.

For XBox, there's an extra little cable that you plug into the controller for chat, when you use it on the PS3, I believe it uses USB for the Mic, and there's a normal jack for use on PC

See cables put me off, I sit too far from my Xbox to run cables to and from a headset. If I go it will be wireless.

I've been looking at these for a while now.

I went for the Tritton Wireless ones, about R100 or so bucks cheaper then the Razer Chimera's from Zaps, not to bad but the one thing that does put me off about Wireless though is you sometimes pick up a buzz on the headphones :-(

I find there's a bit of a buzz even on the wired ones, if you have the SVM (Selectable Voice Monitoring) turned on. You don't notice it when in game, but it's annoying when it's quiet. Turning off the SVM gets rid of the buzz completely, but then you can't hear yourself talk, so you tend to shout.

Then it is fine, I will leave it on and just make sure the game is louder :-)
