Hey everyone,

I just joined up to make this offer to all of you. I figure gamers will benefit most as it requires a good AMD GPU (sorry Nvidia fans) and a little PC know-how.

How it works is simple:

1) you download a free, small app that audits a public record of online transactions. Feel free to scan the app any way you like, the code is open source.
2) unzip and run it as per my instructions. It can be run in the background, but will probably drop your FPS in graphic-intensive games / applications. Running it full blast while AFK will be the most profitable.
3) as your proof of work data comes through, I pay you. I'll send you airtime, or if you're in Pretoria pay you cash. I'll do EFTs once you've accumulated an amount that makes the bank charges worthwhile.
4) you can run the app for as long as you like, across as many systems as you like.

I've done it, I know the ins and outs.
If you don't pay for the electricity then its def profitable. But then they might as well just mine for themselves.

GPU's are the most power hungry parts of machines. They can draw a huge amount of power.
 
The alt coins can't be directly exchanged for Rands. There are at least 3 translations before they become "real money." This takes market knowledge and timing for maximum profit. You can think of me as a fund manager.
 
hmmmmmmmmmm, very interesting.... but unfortunately I'm still lacking in the GPU department. Might check back in after I upgrade :)

Apologies, The Joker, if you tried to contact me on the email address I gave you in PM. The mail server seems to have crashed, and I've been unable to login for 2 or 3 days now. Rather a nuisance, as I printed up a bunch of flyers to promote this offer, and I can't see the response. Sending you and Caboose my alternate address.

Anyway, Bitcoin is something I encourage everyone to look at. Peer-to-peer currency will be for finance what the internet was for communication. It's transmissable to anyone in the world, at any time, with no intermediaries and for no cost (or a tiny cost for faster verification of payment) There's more to it than I could possibly explain here, so please investigate further. :)

As for this offer, it's still open to anyone who'd like to give it a shot!

I've been looking at bitcoins and bought some as well. I've also looked at the alt-coins to mine and I can confirm that, on the surface at least, the vulgar one speaks truth.
 
I spent the most of my Friday trying to learn what bitcoins are and how farming them actually works etc.. i have to say i got a little obsessed during my research and i have yet to fully understand, lol.

The idea sounds interesting and i even got a colleague interested :)
 
You guys are too little, too late. I started mining about 18 months ago with a mate of mine, then stopped when the "bank" got robbed and the market crashed. My mate continued to mine and cashed out about a month ago. He is now R300 000 richer. He paid no electricity as well, so nice profit. I regret not continuing mining, but hindsight in 20-20.

Yep, too late for Bitcoin. Even if you've got a ninja bastard PC with two 7970s, you won't be able to compete against the custom mining hardware now hitting the Bitcoin market. You can mine the alt coins instead, but they're risky - like penny stocks compared to blue chips. A lot of the alt coins, which are just forks of the Bitcoin project, are likely going to fail through lack of use.

So, I'm taking a speculative WAG (technical finance term for wild ass guess) on a couple of the alt coins, hoping the network effect will leverage them into useful currency rather than digital curiousities. If these coins crash, you keep your Rands and I'm left holding the bag. If the coins rise instead, I've given you the tools and knowledge to mine them and nothing says you HAVE to sell them, you can just keep 'em.

If I had to make a guess on what's worth mining at this stage (and this is just a guess, don't come crying if the market bombs) it is Litecoin and Teracoin. Keep an eye on Ripple as well. I'd mine these and exchange them for bitcoins. Just my 0.00002BTC.
 
Yes, I mine Litecoin, I think it's got a future. Terracoin I'm less sure of due to their small network size. AFAIK they had an ASIC cranking their network for a while, which drove difficulty up way high for the CPU and GPU guys. IIRC the spike lasted about a week after the ASIC guy left.

The smaller the coin's network, the more vulnerable it is to these kinda "exploits" - read up on the 51% attack, a known vulnerability of all coins (but one succesful coins outpace through network growth). All kinds of games get played with the lower value coins on the exchange side too.
