Government entities racked up more than R2 billion in wasteful expenditure in the past financial year and incurred another R26.4bn in irregular spending, the Auditor General said on Wednesday.

In both instances, the transgression increased by more than a third since the previous financial year, AG Thembekile Makwetu told Parliament's watchdog public accounts committee, Scopa.

Not at all surprising if you ask me... With the amount of news this year relating to corruption and misuse of public funds it adds up... 50k in like 2 weeks on fast food etc...
 
Like I've said before, any system that rules R10 for a slice of bread as ok is fucked up. Then again if the president can waste R100 mil then what's R20 000 for a cell phone
 
Now that they know about the irregular spending are they gonna do anything meaning full about it, that is the real question that has to be answered.

Doubt it since this year it has gone up compared to last years audits. It seems the AG just ticks the boxes and the ANC uses the report for fire kindeling
 
Have a few friends who work for the dept of education in the finance dept, and the things they see is insane. Huge quantities of cash going missing. But they reckon the large quantities are just the people getting too greedy and sloppy, its the smaller amounts which virtually go unchecked and amount to millions.

That's the problem with auditing, if it's below trivial it's not worth the time to check it out
