GPU prices compared

gosh, drnt realise Computers Only was that much cheaper . . . impressive @ least for the Nvidia cards

also noting that Reference design and compliance also means the brands have very little to differenciate themselves from each other, so price is king or bundle wins.

Yea I agree. I always buy the cheapest and it hasnt failed me yet.
 
Computersonly you have to factor in their delivery costs R64 for main centre's and R126 for outlying
 
Ok now, Tincan, the all important question...

If you're running an Intel E7400 processor ... which GPU would you go for?

GTS250 or HD4890 ?
 
Hd4890 easy

mind you I have MSi GTX260 Lightnining 1789MB in my LAN machine and runs like a beast.
my brother has a Force3D HD5770 in his pc. they both good brands. no hassles so far

my uber pc has ze Asus HD5970 in it and my spare XFX 9600GT is running PhysX booya!

so using a wide variety of brands and none has given me hassles :D

That's very interesting. There are some really great prices there. Shows that it is worth shopping around before buying from the firs source you find!
 
So would there be a significant difference between a 512MB and 1GB card running on a 23"?

Oh and also, what is the deal with Green Editions from Club 3D? They're pretty cheap but something looks dodge.
 
1: Depends very much on the card - you'll have to look at reviews to confirm how much gains you'll see.
2: Nothing wrong with club3d.

HD 4890 hands down, its just faster without a doubt :)

As for the extra 512MB on a 23", I definitely think its worthwhile.

Yeah, their top of the line ones are fine, but for instance a 9800GT 1gb Green Edition goes for R1100 on some sites - I've seen some forums that say it's way slower than a normal one (ie Gigabyte/Asus)
 
It would only be slower if they had lowered the standard clock speeds in some way. All vendors take the manufacturer's card and tweak it in some way - either with better cooling or bumped up speeds or just rebranding. But clock for clock they will be exactly the same card.

Hmm... what PSU do u need for that?

Looks like a 500W PSU will suffice if i am understanding this correctly?

My first pick is actually a GTS 250, as it's gonna be more budget friendly.

Yeah, but at least a GTS 250 is in the same ballpark as a HD 4890, though obviously inferior.

I would have to spend an extra R800 to get a HD 4890 over the GTS 250. I have an old 500W PSU that I would like to use with whatever new graphics card I get, and if that is not possible, that is another R800 I'll have to fork out for a decent PSU.

I'm just trying to get the best value for money. Will have to check my old PSU out properly, as it may not even be suitable for the GTS 250 I had in mind, in which case I will probably opt for the 4890 anyways!

Anyhoo... what's a good value for money PSU? How does Vantec rate?
