Grab Dungeon Keeper for free on GOG.com

I think I'm going to give Dungeon Keeper a bash to see how it compares to the new mobile release.

The same EA label that made Dungeon Keeper made The Simpsons: Tapped Out. As far as freemium games go, it's predictably mindless, but it makes bathroom breaks more entertaining, and I haven't felt inclined to spend a penny on the ludicrously priced in-game junk.

That's a game that I can't complain about, despite its obvious freemium suckiness, because I still derive a modicum of entertainment out of it.

Dungeon Keeper however, that has a legacy. Of course fans of the series are going to despise this freemium model and terribly gimped game. I feel sorry for those who have never played the originals and somehow got suckered into that mobile abomination.

Now, on to the GOG games.

Due to their age the games require a bit of tinkering behind the scenes to get running smoothly. I've had troubles with DK2 myself, but in the end it works. The gameplay mechanics are timeless, and despite the dated graphics, the fantastic art direction means its still visually appealing and a fun world to explore.

At this stage I hope EA doesn't try to revive the franchise because they are guaranteed to fuck it up - kinda like SimCity.

Something like Dungeon Keeper needs a passionate team of indie devs behind it, not a money-sucking mega-publisher preying on our nostalgia.

This is why I want to give this a go. I remember DK from way back, but never bought it or bothered with it. Not entirely sure why. I was probably too young?

Dungeon Keeper is a classic, sad to hear about the bull slagga mobile game dragging it's good name through the mud.

Weird that you guys are waiting so long, my email came through just before 4.

sweet, all sorted, my email just game in and busy dloading :-) now all i need is Theme Hospital and Syndicate Wars and my 90's weekend will be complete :-)

I must admit - I missed many of the Bullfrog classics since I didn't have a PC that coudl run anything in those days. Got Theme Hospital a while back and it was quite a bit of fun, and funny! Grabbed the free DK to try it out.

I just started playing it. Must say, I'm struggling to get a hang of it :o

And the graphics are hurting my eyes :p
