Gran-Turismo-5

Hi

Very new to this gaming thing but my 10yr old is desperate for this game.

What are your opinions on it?

It depends, this is a VERY real and "hard" driving game. I bought and can't actually play it because I don't have a steering wheel, playing with a controller is kak hard! Is may not be realistic in the sense of car damage and whatnot but the way the car handle is almost exactly like the real life counterparts. If your son is used to Need for Speed and thinks this game will be similar then I would not recommend it, rather go for Shift 2: Unleashed.

It's a simulator, not a play-racer.

I agree with the Duke ... rather get something else in the NFS range going for him.

I put the disc in once, played one race and took it the disc out. Have yet to put it in again and this was like 2 months ago. The game has to much hype, for fun i would got for shift or maybe hot pursuit.

It's an excellent game! But it's for real car lovers, not guys looking for an adrenaline rush.

Excellent game. For me.
For your young son... I highly doubt it.

Like others said, rather get him something the Need for Speed catalog.

Agreed with the posters above. GT is more of a simulator racing game, and can be very unforgiving in the races. Unless times have changed, i seriously doubt that's what 10 year olds are looking for.

Need for Speed is probably your best bet, or maybe the Test Drive title that came out recently?

You mean its for real car lovers who cant get the real thing. JJ.

I know what you mean but as i said for quick fun gt5 is not the game to get.

If he wants an awesome racing game which has a mix of realism and arcade-style fun - buy him Dirt 2. As for "ultra realistic" - I cannot make that comment on Gran Turismo since I'm a bit of a Forza fanboy and obviously think it's much better than what GT5 is....but that would make me a troll on this thread....and I don't like being a troll.

Hot Pursuit FTW.

Or if he's after more of a sim then Shift 2 is a better blend of arcade/simulator racing, but the learning curve is steep.

Gran turismo 5 best racing game ever B spec lvl 31 A spec lvl 28

In B-spec how the hell do you keep the driver on th etrack played twice and the guy couldn't keep a fully tuned civic on the track kept on hitting walls. (sorry off the topic).

As for the poster, i think your son is hearing from his peers about this game, and will be frustrated if he usually plays arcade racers, Need for Speed is your desired root and not the shift series.

Well maybe rent the game for the w/e, he can see its not his kind of thing or not...maybe he is a young car lover at heart :P
But ja, I do think NFS will be more his thing at the end but as a kid I can imagine being told that you wont like this will go down very well, let him experience it for himself, rent dont buy...

thanks guys
We have Motorstorm - that is the dirt car thing hey :)
Will look at the other ideas

Um.. Motorstorm and Dirt 2 are 2 different games. Get him Need For Speed Hot: Pursuit. It's really fun and simplistic but pretty.

It's a pity that the best casual racer PGR is on Xbox 360.

No he meant motorstorm takes place in the dessert, lol he was giving a brief explaination... never refered to Dirt as a game.
