Graphics Card Advice (Budget R3300)

That time of the decade again that I can somewhat afford a PC upgrade.

I'm currently running a Powercolor Radeon HD5770, but feel it's time to move on. I have R 3300 (max, that includes postage costs) to spend but, as always, anxious I might make a bad decision.

What I have on the drawing board at the moment:

Asus GTX660-DC2T-2GD5 GeForce GTX660 16xPCIE 192-bit 2GB GDDR5 w/2DVI + HDMI + DP for R3260

I have to stress the fact that I can't stretch this budget any more, this is pretty much the maximum I can spend for quite some time without fearing for my knees.

Any help'd be greatly appreciated.

What about a AMD HD R9-270X?

It's newer tech and it's got 256bit bus. It's probably on par with the GTX 660Ti but it's got mantle which makes it in my eye a card to consider.

***Edit it seems to beat the GTX 660 not by much but still 8fps can do a lot to a game.

I am more partial to Nvidia's products. Had a GeForce 660GT and it gave consistent performance across the board while my ATI in my laptop has had issues. I know it's a mobile ATI chip but I've not had any of my friends rave about even the high end ATI's. I personally trust Nvidia's chips and will be getting a laptop and PC with GeForce GTX-765M and GeForce GTX 680 in them respectively.

Awesome advice, and leaning towards the R9270X.

Buuuut, there are 2 of the above mentioned that are going the same price with different names.

MSI Radeon R9 270X 2GB HAWK
SapphireRadeon R9 270X 2GB TOXIC

They look pretty much the same stats, from my ignorant eye. 1 has a third fan though. :(
yeah dude I was a nvidia fan all these years but they are losing the GPU battle. they are running circles around the nvidias when it comes to the money : performance ratio

Think I'm going to go with the Toxic, reviews are quite impressive. Will put my order in by Evetech, has anyone dealt with them before? I live close by them so I can go pick it up in person at least.

I am more partial to MSI's build quality rather than Sapphire's but that's my personal opinion.

MSI has excellent build standards. I stake them as my preferred manufacturer; and Yes the MSI Radeon R9 270X 2GB HAWK is the best deal for that amount of money. I spent R2700 on my MSI GTX 660 and I can say that you should JUMP on that 270X

So the HAWK rather than the TOXIC purely because it's MSI?

The physical card itself will be better and have higher longevity because if the MSI build. However the Toxic has a slightly higher effective Video Memory Clock speed; so if that is important to you then go for the toxic; but I would rather recommend the MSI because it will be more stable which leads to greater effectiveness at experimental overclocking.

Have never overclocked anything really to be honest, and not too keen on it. So, might just go for the Toxic then.

Cheers for all the help

My Google skillz are lacking :P ty

lol your welcome bud.

If there is no stock of the card you want just give them a call and they'll put it on back order for you.
Toxic cards should be in stock next week.

Speak to Alex or Kaleigh and they'll gladly help you out.

Annoying little situation I'm in now.

Like a pilleck I went and sold my graphics card in Oct 2013 for the Toxic's stock expectancy beginning Noc 2013. Now it's been delayed to mid January 2014, and might be delayed again after that.

Phoned around today and can get one from a different supplier, but for R 3700 (R 500 more). I'm can stretch my budget one last time for that price, but doubt it would be worth it. Maybe there's something similar, or better out there for R 3700?
