Graphics Card dilemma!! Plz help!

Well its not too hard to check, did one of the games you installed install a DX version higher than the one you had preinstalled?
 
It more than likely installed Diret X 9 which the 9600 series of cards run best with

I would disagree, a while back I bought an XFX 9800GTX and was too eager to start using it, and was powering it off a 500w PSU, within a few days I had broken the card, started to lose the driver and turn the screen black when I put the card under strain (newer games, benchmark etc.).

But you have nothing to lose by updating and checking first :)
 
You can damage a gpu AND psu... if you have not heard of it or experienced it it doesn't mean that it doesn't happen.
