Graphics cards that you brought and left you with dissapointment

Well as the title says

what card did you buy that left you with a bitter taste in your mouth?

Personally i had a huge dissapointment in my Gigabyte GTS250 and felt ripped off!

After learning that it was infact a 9800GT+ i felt stuiped and pertially because at the time i didnt know any better!

Lets hear it!

Going back a bit now ...... MX440 - and then I got home and found the shader model on it was behind what Splinter Cell needed and I cried :( Major letdown but valuable in the sense that from then on I did lots of research before buying new cards.

Yeah the mx440 was pretty miserable.

For the price, the gts250 was a good card. Don't forget it was only 1 generation newer than the 9800GT which was a high end card of the 9000 series cards and cost a lot more than the R1300 that you would've paid for the gts250.

Luckily I have never had a bad experience with GPUs. I also do a lot of research before buying any hardware these days. Nothing worse than being disappointed by something you payed an arm and a leg for.

Geforce fx5200...

why oh why didn't i just save that R700 more and get the 5700?

I bought a Geforce 9400GT... man oh man was it a waste. My 8800 performed better than it :/
Again comparing a low end card of a new generation with a high-end card of an older one. Of course the 8800 will be better, it cost you a LOT more.

HIS 450, total piece of kak compared to the BFG 260 MAxxCore. endless problems and issues mixed with nice powerplay bug- thanks ati for making me see that you can only bet on green

XFX GeForce 8600 GT Fatal1ty <---- Biggest waste of money. Think I paid around R1700 for it back in the day. Was a shit card..End of the story!!

An old 6600GT, I only had it 6 months before getting a 7600GT which I had till the end of 2007.

i had 2 6600gt's just as they were released in sli they lasted me til the 8000 series was released so not that crap :)

My problem card was Gigabyte GTX 295, it gave me massive issues from day one, and sent it in four times before i got all my money back and bought me a GTX480.

Sapphire HD4890 2GB edition... Wound up not working nearly to its full potential (and still wouldn't today). 2GB is WAY overkill in my opinion and people with cheaper 5 series cards had better experiences than me.

Was so dof spending the extra cash for the shoddy 2GB's when I could've waited another 3months and gotten a better performing card for less.

An old GeForce 5200 by Asus. It lasted about 5 years. There were pretty crappy 5200's going around but this one performed closer to mid-range.

Thankfully (as to0kenZA said) I always do alot of research on my hardware purchases, so no disappointments to date. That and the fact that I always try and go 2 generations up so I get a decent enough performance margin to notice easily. GeForce FX5700 ultra -> 7800gt -> GTX9800 -> GTX580, all smiles :)

lol. 9800 to gtx 580... that must've been a shock to the system.

my progression was 5200 sparkle card (was amazing, 128bit) -> 5600 -> 7900 -> 9800GTX2 -> 250GS -> 280GT -> GTX480

There were cards before that, the geforce 2, 4, and some old pci cards. Just waiting for the next gen to upgrade again. :)
