So I was going to buy a 1080 Gigabyte Xtreme Gaming package from a guy sourcing it from an Unknown Supplier( he did not want to give me the name ). I however managed to get a GALAX 1080 HOF, of which I have always been a very big fan, at a very very good price.

Now he is trying to convince me that GALAX is a grey import GPU and that the supplier will not be able to honor their warranty. As stated on their site the GPU comes with a standard 2 Year Warranty from Wootware.

So my Questions as follows to anyone that can help:

I have my own definition of a Grey Import in my mind, what do you consider a grey import?
Is Galax a Grey Import?
Is Wootware the only supplier to source GALAX?
Wootware does state on their site a 2 year warranty, has anyone ever had issues regarding this as I have personally enver had a problem with Wootware.

I have a feeling this guy is trying to twist my hand as he wanted his sale.
He was very quick to spam me for his money to get the sale, but when I ask questions and want more info he takes he takes forever.

Any Feedback or info would be appreciated

If it's a 'grey import' and it works as good if not better than anything else on the market, and you saved some tin in the process, is that really a problem?

You should know better Flex, you have a Galax card, as do I.

Exactly. And it is not that they are cheaper, even if it was one. They are going for close to 17K. And there was a mistake/Pre order sale their site. And bought it for that reason.

Just wanted some more opinions of people in the industry

Regardless of Galax, with reference to any other brand or supplier. They still hold a warranty if that's what you're concerned about. Ain't nothing wrong with buying these goods in my humble opinion.

Grey Imports or Parallel Imports are products that have been imported through non-official distributors and/or does not meet local regulations. It's not a counterfeit product.

This is fairly common with motorcycles. Take the Yamaha YZF-R1 as an example. Goes for +/- R190k new if your buy it from a Yamaha official dealership. You can however get the Japanese Spec R1 from an unofficial dealer (i.e. the motorcycle was exported from Japan to Mozambique or Tanzania and then moved to South Africa to be sold). You can pick those up for around R140k. However, even though almost everything is identical (you might have to switch headlights, the ECU might be set differently, etc). Hell you can even buy parts for it from Yamaha and it will all fit, however Yamaha will not honor a warranty issue on the motorcycle. The dealer you bought the motorcycle from might offer some warranty, but the onus is then on the seller/dealer to ensure that they source and fit the parts accordingly.

Hell, if it works and works for at least 2 years without giving you issues you're ok. IF that's even a grey import.
 
From expierience certain vendors will not honor warranties locally if they do not have an agreement with the retailer. Galax are good units and if you go look at somewhere like Guru3d they always get good reviews.

The bottom line is Wootware gets it somewhere, And wherever somewhere is they do warranties. That you need to determine. Simply call wootware and ask them who they use as importer as you are interested in a galaz but your friend said there is no local warranties. They will quickly tell you that isnt a problem and how they go about things.

Secondly if its an original galax unit you will be able to register it somewhere on their website. In a worst case you might have to ship it somewhere abroad to get it returned but it will still kick in

Off topic - Im a huge MSI fan but if i request any one buy me something when they are abroad I always ask for ASUS. They have a global return policy and one of the best support systems I have ever seen ( i work for a security distributor and have seen some good products ) I won a Asus rampage 3 at a lan that the LAN acquired from somewhere and it was a board that on the Asus systems never entered south Africa. IT took 5 minutes to sort this out and i was able to RMA the board due to a faulty Ram slot.

Good example there yes. i had the Orange Grey import Zx 6R a while back
 
I have a Galax gtx960 Love the card running great , will Definitely buy Galax again.

I think rebeltech also sells them, in the end wootware has the warranty agreement with you so it's their problem to sort it out, how they do that is not your problem.

Damn I'm late to this thread. But yes Wootware has some of the best support ever and I'd buy any of their products and know they'll honour the warranty.
