Following last month’s announcement hinting at new content and features coming soon, Kazunori Yamauchi tweets that new content and features will be a “Spec 2.0″ update to GT5 in October and downloadable content shortly after:

"GT fans, thanks for waiting… The GT5 Spec 2.0 update is coming the 3rd week of October, with DLC following a week later."

There is no news yet regarding exactly what the Spec 2.0 update will bring or the price of the DLC.

Awesomes!

Does anyone have more info on this update cause i been looking and it like non exsistent... I really would like to know what i am in for...

No info has been released on what the patch contains, just that it will be a notable addition to the game. I am hoping for premium models on a few more cars and some new tracks and customization options.

Right so details about the update is out. It's way beyond what I was expecting!

Hello Gran Turismo fans,

When Gran Turismo 5 launched almost a year ago now, Kazunori Yamauchi, the game’s creator, promised fans clutching their copies of the Real Driving Simulator, that the launch of the eagerly awaited title was not the end of the journey for the game but the start.

True to that statement, since GT5 launched Yamauchi-san and the Polyphony team have been closely monitoring the feedback of the dedicated and discerning GT5 community. As a result of this, we have seen significant support for GT5 in the form of regular functionality updates.

Today, I am very pleased to announce details of Functionality Update 2.0 which is the most sizable since the game launched. The update will be available for download on the 11th October. Of course the real bonus of all of this new content is the fact that it’s all absolutely free!

Here’s the rundown on what you can expect to see in the update.

Firstly all ‘standard’ cars will now feature an interior view, the level of detail will vary from car to car, but now for the first time you will be able to literally get behind the wheel of all the cars in the game.

Next is the great news that players can now save their progress during endurance races and return to the fray at a time of their own choosing.

For fans of the stateside motoring championship NASCAR, there is a package of 11 NASCAR 2011 cars. There has also been improvement to the weather settings in the game and now players can incrementally adjust weather settings for race start and race end.

Additional features of this update are:

Photo Travel Mode updates
Shortening of load times and improved menu response
Improved car physics simulation, further evolved A.I.
Improved and enhanced user interface
Support for the Logitech G25/G27 steering wheels
New features in the Online Lounge

It's an update so it's entirely free! :D

Awesome Isengard thanks for that... there are alot of nice updates there... lack of cars is sad though maybe the dlc will make up for that.

Awesome update!

And there is still DLC on the way. I'm really happy they have added support for the Logitech G25/G27 steering wheels. Now I definitely have reason to get myself one for Xmas.

And thank goodness for the interior view update, something that a lot of people felt lacking in the original.

This Update is 1.2GB big give or take a few megs, lol... Just started downloading it now... Should be too long till its down... Really have to reconsider get my PS+ service back, so i dont have to wait for these downloads to happen when i pop the disc in to play.

Awesome update :D, but I'm not sure when I will have time to check out all the changes because I'm hooked to Dark Souls.

Is it me or is the PSN network congested today? Cause i am still waiting for this download to finish... Wierd cause i never wait this long for anything to download... I have a 4mb line.

I prefer to setup my PS3 on a proxy and download the file to my PC instead. I've always found PSN downloads speeds slow. :/

I normally dont have an issue with updates and downloads fom PSN, it usually downloads relatively quickly, even if not at the full pace of the line... but i have downloaded 1GB files already and this is the first it has taken this long...

My i should try your proxy advice maybe it will be better... but i have 10% left so it will be on the next huge download.

Took roughly 50min to download and another 10 or so to apply the update. The proxy has always worked great for me, especially if something happens to my internet, lost one or two big updates like that and got fed up.

Yeah on of my friends has the same issue so i let him come update by me usually...

I am not like one part of this update, the fact that the money payouts have been reduced and that you have to log in everyday to keep you payout bonus high... This is going to make my spending habbits take a knock considering i just blow through i another 5 million credits for fun... Dammit, now i need to focus back on the online racing to et money back, before i continue with b-spec again.
