GTA IV: Episodes if Liberty City FPS

Hi,

I hope no one has posted on this already... I did do a search :)

I recently brought the game and to my surprise runs incredibly slow.

I am running a:
3.4 AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition
8 Gigs of RAM
2 x ATI HD5770 1GB crossfire

I have done a benchmark on FULL gfx and get 15fps
and on low settings (800x600) I still only get 18fps?

This does not make sense to me.

I play every other game on MAX settings, including the Mafia II demo.

Anyone experience the same or have managed to solve the problem?

Thanks.

Hi Goswald,

It's not your rig that's the problem - it's the game.

The game is extremely, extremely resource hungry. Even other people who have the 6core Intel i7 980X CPU are still not getting the performance that was expected and the game remains largely unplayable on the PC because of this.

I remember when GTA IV for the PC was launched, there was not a single PC user that could run the game at a decent framerate with max graphics enabled. Back then they said the game was designed to "run on future hardware and not those of today". So it makes me wonder if Marty McFly brought them "future" hardware to develop the game on and test it with?

All in all, GTA IV for the PC was a HUGE flop thanks to terrible optimization. Maybe in about 8 years from now we'll be able to break the 60FPS mark on that game :)

I'm sorry but I get an average of around 40fps at full HD on my PC. Something is definitely wrong with your setup. My specs are Athlon II X4 @3.0Ghz, 2GB DDRII 800 RAM and an ATI 5770 1GB.

I'll gladly do a benchmark tonight to properly confirm my framerate.

Yeah I dont have the expansion pack, but the normal version runs fine on my pc. The latest patch sorted out all the issues for me. I have a 2.8 Dual Core CPU, 3 GBs of ram and a GTS250 Graphics card. So i think there might be somethine wrong with your setup?

hates windows 7 i still can't install it.

I got GTX480 and Episodes if Liberty City takes about 80% usage when playing were BC2 full dx11 takes only 50-60% so ja GTA fail, the graphics is not even nice on it.

I suspect that the Euphoria Physics that GTA IV uses is the biggest culprit in terms of CPU usage.

I haven't tried Episode's of Liberty city, but I used to run the original (after the patches) maxed out without dipping below 60FPS, that was with a Q6600 Quad and 4870x2. You really shouldn't be having any problems.
