GTX280 overheating

Hi ther my GPU is overheating. sometimes it can go up to 90C play a game and something like 56 on idle. I alredy got my fan speed on 100%

Here's my setup

Q9450 oc to 3.2GHz Zalman CNPS9700
MSI Geforce GTX280 OC edition
4GB DDRII 800MHz ram
4 HDD
Cooler master CM690 with all the fans
MSI P45 Platinum motherboard

I was thinking of getting the Arctic cooling or Thermaltake solution but they both have heat issues with the memory on that Graphics card. I don't have the money to get a new card. I already opened a ticked with MSI and you know how the manufacturers are with support. i only got 1 - 2 months left on warranty

Dude, 50-60 is Normal for a GTX280 on idle. as is 90c when on full load. I know this cause my GTX260 runs 55-60 on idle, and even on 100% fanspeed under load Frequently gets upto 85c, and I have lekker cooling, well setup in my case.

dont believe me

In idle you can expect a temperature of 50-55 Degrees C. Pretty normal. Yet once we push the GPU to 100%, the temperatures take a pretty hefty toll and settle at 85 Degrees C, that's 185 degrees F

Another forum.......

280GTX gpu ambient temps sit @ ~55-60 degrees ~88-95 loaded

The only time to start worrying about GPU temps, is if your card starts displaying artifacts randomly in ALL games, or just displays a blank screen and reboots your pc after prolongued use.
I know those high figures seem worrying, but they aren't.

ok. anyone else wants to verify what maplassie said. On NVIDIA site thye said 105C is max and 90c is close to that

lol man, my HD4890's like peak @ 95'C sometimes.
depends on ur gfx settings etc too

but yes, mappy is correct on this

GTX 280's do run hot... but over 90 degrees does seem high especially with fan speed set to max.

At one point I had an issue with the stock cooler not being mounted 100% correctly. This was solved by just remounting and putting on some decent thermal paste.

ok cool will try it. Where can I get hold of the thermal paste. Just one question is the stock cooler aluminium or copper?

Damn. Cause I know some of the good thermal paste is not compatible with aluminium. I still got some zalman thermalpaste left from my CPU cooler (CNPS9700). Will that be good enough or even better than the stock ones

Hey wanna see hot? slot a 9800gt inbetween 2 GTX280's and let the 9800GT run the physics for your games. Cook much? lol

ok ok I get the point Neo. But still my cards run a bit hot. 90C on load is very hot. It should never hit that temps on 20 - 30C ambient temp.

I think I'm going to apply a b it of my Zalman ZM-STG1 today when I get home. let's hope for the best.

ok. good idea Fearless. I will first try that then see if it works and then if that doesn't work I will put some of that thermal paste on. I hope I've got enough thermal paste left.

LOL dude, seriously, 90 degrees is nothing to be concerned about. It's summer time in SA and you're stuff is bound to run a bit hotter. If you're really concerned, clean the dust out of your case?

ok just applied the zalman Thermalpaste and the card is running hotter that ever. Like 95C on dirt 2

Going to check for better thermalpaste for my GPU tomorrow
