GTX280 overheating

Dude...ever heard about the saying "fix something until it's broken" ? You're doing that now! Get an airconditioner if you're that concerned!

lol. I applied some coolermaster Nanofusion thermalpaste and my highest temp is 74C while playing games and on furmark 12min it reaches 88c and thats on fully 100% load. and it's farking hot in my room. like almost 26C - 30C.

ventilation,ventilation man!!
but that's much better than what u had. open the damn windows man :P

Already doing that. It's farking hot in my room. i opened the windows and got a roof fan also a normal fan and lots of case fans. maybe check if I have warranty left and if i do overheat the card and take it back to suppliers to get my money back. and then get 2x radeon 5870 or 2x 5850

stupid Q. is ur ventilation n fans all working the right way in your case?

Yes it is, I made sure of it...
I also did tell Dice not to Fiddle with the card, and after applying the crap Zalman Thermal paste(witch I did not tell him to do so), we went and bought the Coolermaster Thermal paste..
I myself have a bit of a issue with heat on my GPU, but I am defenitly not gonna worry about it. If it gets a bit to hot(106c), open the case and put a fan on it. We live in South-Africa where we have Hot summers, Nothing we can do about it, but put a aircon in the room, or the "open case with Fan blowing into it mod"... hehe

yes I'm getting the best vetelation with the fans I have. Only way to get better temps is to get better fans with more CFM. O and that 74C is when I play dirt2 or games that uses a lot of GPU power

i though about saving some money and get myself a Radeon 5970 if it will fit in my CM690. another option is to get a 5870 cause it's a bit cheaper and still better than my GTX280. Yet another option is to wait farking long for the new Nvidia cards to come out and run my current GTX80 as physx. If I'm going for the radeon cards I will sell my GTX280.

ok but will have to wait for my supplier to get the MSI 5970 in stock and for me to save enough money. Will my Corsair 650w be able to handle the following

MSI P45-Platinum
MSI ATI 5970
Q9450 oc to 3.2 GHZ @ 1.2V
7x 12mm FANs regular
4x SATA HDD
1 x DVD Writer

90-100C load on your GPU is not overheating, that's normal for these cards. Parts of the 5970 gets as hot as 120C under load (not the GPU, but the VRAM).

You could shave 1-5C off on the GPU by using arctic silver, 10C with custom cooling. But, in both cases you will void your warranty.

Yeah thats what I told him way back on page 1 or 2. I only ever start stressing about Overheating when my card starts displaying artifacts, or displays a blank screen and my PC reboots.

I had that with my GTS640 back in the day. I just took of the HSF and remounted it and never had an issue since.

I agree with what everyone said, those temps are quite normal. Only when your card starts producing the aforementioned artifacts is when you need to worry. That's when my card decided to conk out (putting it in the oven fixed that up though :D).

but my pc sometimes reboots and all. i figured out thats it's a problem with DIRT2 cause that's the game my pc normally reboots. Nobody can tell me that 100C is fine for GPU. If thats fine then no GPU/CPU can overheat and I can overclock the shit out off the card.

MSI got back to me agin with a suggestion of installing system fan 2 and 3. don't know what thye mean by that cause I made it clear that I got the cm690 case with all fans in it. But then they said if that doesn't resolve the issue my card have to be replaced.

ventilation ventilation! If u have the CM690, u need the other fans to work for decent airflow. otherwise u looking for trouble

ok so tell me how the ventilation should be. I don't think i'm doing anything wrong. My setup is

front 120mm intake
side 2x120mm intake
back 120mm exhaust
top 2x 120mm exhaust
back of motherboard old amd processor fan exhaust.

so what am I doing wrong. I also have good cable management. you guys are thiking i'm so stupid that I don't do my research on airflow. I've have an idea of modding the case so that I can fit 120mm fan at the back outisde of the case where all my pci-ex and pci slots are. that will also help pulling the hot air from the Graphcs card a bit faster.

Would you like screenies? :D

I have 4 GFX cards at the moment (in different PCs). 5970, GTX295, 4870x2 and an older 2900XT.

All of these cards run above 90C at 100% load. The 5970, 4870x2 and GTX295 reach 100C if under Furmark load for 10mins. If your GFX card is stable running Furmark, it is perfect.
