It's a very similar game to wing commander.

It shared a disc with Ultima8agan and a few other games at one time.

Yes! Well done. All those games where made by Origin and thus shared that compilation disc. Strike commander was one of my favourite games growing up. Now if only I could find my copy of that disc.

Along with that compilation there was also an additional CD or two containing the The Secret Missions 1 and The Secret Missions 2: Crusade expansions for wingcommander.
