Guild Wars 2: all you need to know (for now)

Just FYI ... the new profession introduced in Nightfall was the dervish and not the derbish.

Not sure what a derbish does, but I'm convinced it must be fascinating :p

It's similar to my preferred profession - derpish.

Someone english person please explain this to me.

You have 10 slots which you can assign skills to from your skills pool (skills are obviously based on your chosen profession) - some of these slots have pre-defined roles - ie, a certain amount can only be set with offensive skills, another amount with defensive skills etc.

So instead of just having a whole bunch of skills you can use whenever, the game (as with the first one) forces you to strategically select limited skills which to use when you go on quests.

I think this explains it best.

Instead, you have a limited number of skill slots. On the left half of the skill bar, five slots are dedicated to weapon-based skills. Five more on the right are dedicated to a huge range of unlockable skills you can purchase as you level. Dedicated healing abilities can be assigned only to one slot on the right, so you have to choose one and only one at a time. Other unlocked skills can be fitted into the rest of the right side skill bar, but the skills eligible for slots are rigidly defined – you can't, for example, wipe a healing skill off the bar entirely to make room for something else.

The skills on the left side of the bar depend on the type of weapon equipped. The Mesmer profession, for instance, can use a variety of one-handed, off-hand and two-handed weapons. Two-handers have five associated skills, one-handers have three, and off-hand items two. This way, one-handed and off-hand items can be equipped in different combinations to change the skill bar.

Can't wait! Saw loads of videos yesterday and they were all great! There were some issues with people lagging a lot, but others reported no lag at all, so probably some server issues or they just need to streamline their network a tad for stability as well as tweak the engine some for better balance.

Other than that not really anything I saw where people could really moan about it.

I'm sure if you decided to trawl the comments below those posts you'll find plenty of naysayers and moaners. They're always there. Comparing things to WoW :D

I think this game may just be my first foray into MMO territory (not counting World of Tanks). It looks phenomenal and I much prefer there being no monthly fees.

Yeah ShadowFox, I try to stay away from comments since they just aggravate me and stop me from being productive at work since I just feel the need to rage when I read them.

I therefore prefer to filter out the bad and just keep the good. Besides comparing it to WOW... I know it will always happen, but it's not the same. Compare SWTOR, RIFT, LOTRO, etc. to WOW since they are exact copies of wow with just a different name and names for their quests and a different story.
