Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Thought I'd create a thread in which we can discuss anything and everything related to Guild Wars 2 (currently in development).

Question 1: What would you like to see in Guild Wars 2?

As silly as it sounds, what I'm really hoping for is an auction house. The current Guild Wars trade system is chaotic, inconvenient and far from easy to use. Sitting all day spamming chat is not my idea of fun in the least. Simply being able to drop something into the auction and go about my business will make the experience so much better.

Secondly, with regards to professions, I'd personally like to see all the current professions in the sequel. It would feel weird going over to GW2 with my Elementalist's character name (for example), and him not being an Elementalist. I would, however, like to see some new professions being added. The Chronomaster, which was due for Guild Wars Utopia would be awesome.

Lastly, I hope they design a beautiful interface. It also sounds silly, but they could be a lot more creative in their design than they have been in the past. The Guild Wars interface is in no way bad (in my opinion), but the various elements could be linked better and have some sort of theme too. It currently feels like the various parts are haphazard, such as the Menu icon having no link to the skill bar etc.

I am liking what they said so far on what they are aiming for in GW2.

Obviously just the unknowns remains to be seen. The level cap, and whether some of the suggestions are going to be included - like auction houses, changing char names, better AI for the heroes, hopefully introducing some battle formations as well, etc.

That's it. I don't a problem with the UI, I change it as I want it. Auction house I definitely want.
The PvP options will be awesome, it sounds like it will be and the PvE world sounds pretty interesting too.

And most importantly, I am looking forward to not paying them every month in order to play it.

They must just keep the beautiful scenery and graphics in place.
I am quite excited about the whole races thing as well.
The Sylvari will be interesting - it is also the only race they have said absolutely nothing about.

Think it's going to be a better system, in that you can only add one to your party and he is also still customizable.
You do have a choice and if you choose not to take a companion, then your char will be buffed, as example.

So about heroes, well i feel that they should be completely banned from PvP. As for PvE, I would have to say that they would have to be allowed into instanced play. Anet told us in a earlier interview that they will have open world PvP areas but also areas were you do you missions in an instanced environment. This would give them the ability to have good story telling edge while having an open world.

Another thing alot of Guildwars players are worried about is level cap... 50? 60? How high?

My opinion of this is that we wouldn't have to worry about it. Take for example the current system in Guildwars: you'll get attribute points every level until level 20, and after that you still get level ups, but only some skill points (which doesn't really make you stronger than anyone else). Instead of not going up a level, you will go up a level but not get attribute points after a certain level in GW2, thus an indication of your time spent or experience on a character.

Guildwars favors Titles that show a player's personal skill, some kind of proof that you have the experience. Hero title, Champion title, gladiator title. Doesn't matter how farmed up you are, if you have these titles, you'll be able to get accepted into many teams and groups. That could be why they would have a level cap working like this.

Exactly. I don't see why people are worrying about the level cap if beyond a certain point levels are only cosmetic.

I'm pretty stoked for the world events system, such as dragons destroying bridges and players needing to protect the NPCs that run to rebuild it.

I think the level cap should be high enough so that you can reach the cap after playing through normally [including expansions]. Sometimes it's a bit frustrating that you are fighting (PvE) for essentially nothing.

I don't find it frustrating at all. Guild Wars is designed to be entertaining. You play through the missions because you want to, not because you have to. If one was to only reach level 20 at the end of a campaign, it would close a lot of doors for players.

I can't say I understand why people place so much importance on levels. It is, after all, just a number next to your name. What is the difference between reaching the cap half-way through the campaign and at the end of it?

I am seriously hoping they don't make it a grindfest though.
I don't want to grind levels, so it should be decently balanced in the game. They indicated as much in several interviews, so I am just saying.
They have slipped a bit with some titles in GW1 that are seriously grindmunchers.

Alot of the minigames but also some lag friendly ones...
Also Auction house is a must!
Class combo names e.g Warrior/Elementalist would become Battlemage if fire specced
and stuf like that!

Warrior/Monk.... Can you say paladin?

I'm not exactly fond of the idea... then again, it would create some attraction towards the game... but only if they do incorporate it specwize... but hell, what would you call all those classes?

Example:

Warrior Specs - Sword Axe and Hammer.
Monk Specs - Healing, Protection, Smiting

Sword Healing = Cura-Slasher?
Sword Prot = Knight?
Sword Smite = Cleric?

Axe healing = Chopadin?
Axe Prot = Shaman?
Axe Smite = Holywarrior?

hammer Healing = Paladin?
hammer prot = Guardian?
hammer smite = Battlesmasher?

It's not impossible to create a name for each mixture im sure - but the likely hood of them actually doing it is another story. This is also only if the warrior would only be able to wield swords, axes and hammers in GW2... what about Polearms? Maces? Fist Weapons? I'm sure we'll find some new fun stuff to use in GW2 :D

You sure as hell won't look like a Cleric when you are running around with your bulky warrior in gladiator gear.

ANet indicated that it is currently not known if any of the professions from GW1 will return in GW2 as well as how many professions there will be.
They did say that the professions will be designed for solo and group play and that there will be Primary and Secondary professions.

What I want to see is an improvement on the skills system from GW1. They have already said the skills will be designed in such a way that it behaves different in different scenarios and that there will also be fewer skills and less complex skills in total.

This is good, since the powercreep from NF had some bad affects on the game.
I also like it that they said they will be sticking to a similar system like the 8 skill system.
