Guild Wars 2

Any idea if Kalahari will be mailing the serials as well?

Just spoke to someone at kalahari, and got a nice explanation of what a "pre-order" is, and that a key isn't being sent out today with the pre-purchase- after me explaining several times what the pre-purchase is about.

If you phone kalahari, just ask to speak with Dax. He deals with gaming side of things.

Would like to know, must the pre-purchase be done today to get the beta key and early access stuff, etc. or can I like pre-purchase, let's say tomorrow or the day after? or does it have to be today?

You don't need to pre-purchase today, but there is limited stock so you could end up losing out if you wait too long.

Well Takealot, and BTgames are out of stock already (actually I'm not sure, because of conflicting phone calls every time) and Kalahari, well, not sure if I want to order there tbh. I'm thinking of just ordering from buy.guildwars.com.

Only thing is, its crazy expensive to buy it directly from them. At the current exchange rate it costs about R571 (€55)

Unless you can somehow change things so you can buy in dollars.

Id be careful with that one dude...

I just came from BT Games in Somerset Mall (5 minutes ago), payed and received an SMS with my code within a minute. Sorry to hear that some peeps had problems with them earlier. I phoned just after 9am and caught one of their sales guys a bit off-guard, since they've not received all the info yet. I went back just now and the sales person called their head-office with my details and they SMS'ed me the code. They were extremely helpful.

Also, there wasn't any mention of limited keys, but if the retailers have indeed run out, I'm sure they'll get new batches from AreanNet. At the moment, you can't do anything with the key except for registering it at https://register.guildwars2.com/ and waiting for their response e-mail (almost instantaneous). The official forums aren't up, you cannot download the beta client and the beta world event is only scheduled for the end of April anyway ... so there is time.

If all else fails, you can still purchase it from AreanNet, but unfortunately, it will cost you around a R100 more (and it's Digital Editions only). Also, there are no "Deluxe Editions" on pre-purchase for South Africa (as others have mentioned). You can only pre-purchase the standard and CE. Hope this helps a bit. Good luck and see you guys in game! :D

Oh well, time to go loving the ANET guys then (maybe with a bit of luck the euro pricing gets better before i get home)

I will go and attempt this tonight then at the actual shop. Starting to think Pretoria BTgames staff are useless, but will see. Just to confirm, you will get the physical version from them at release without additional costs right?

As far I know, there will be a physical copy after launch that you'd have to pick up from the retailer and no, there isn't any additional costs involved that I'm aware of.

General note: There seems to be a bit of confusion as to when the pre-purchase programme stops. We don't have an end date for this yet - official word from ArenaNet is that the 10th (today) is the start of the pre-purchase programme (i.e. the 10th isn't the one and only date you can pre-purchase). I don't know what's going on in the back-channels (Retailers -> Megarom -> NCSoft etc.) but I highly doubt that South African retailers will just stop acquiring pre-purchase keys after today.

EDIT: Soz, I forgot to say that the CE (Collector's Edtion) of the game is very much limited in terms of supply, so if you plan on purchasing it, today will probably be a good day to do that. According to Martin Kerstein (head CM at ArenaNet), they only plan on doing a limited print run for GW2 CE.

Also, for those thinking they'll miss out on the "Deluxe" version of the game (with all the in-game goodies), Aidan at ArenaNet (one of the European CM's) says the following:

For those of you asking, yes you will be able to upgrade from standard to Digital Deluxe, it will be linked within your account! ^AT
