Guild Wars 2

I can't believe that 3 years down the line their launcher still can't tell me how much data I've got left to download. This is basic functionality for most MMOs. :/

Well, considering it's roughly 21GB (or less if you have only Charrs in your toon slots ;) ), you can probably do the math?

I must admit I've never actually seen a launcher telling me how much data I have left to download. On the other hand it's usually easy enough to calculate - GW has always been unique in that it uses the number of files rather than the amount of data to calculate its percentage of completion.

Not really. If I'm installing from retail disk and I have no idea which files are being replace/updated.

The problem is that it's not easy at all. One file might be 1gb while another is 100kb.

Certainly if their server can calculate how many files you've got left to download, it can total the size of all those files.

I have found a reasonable, rule of thumb is to divide the number of files by 10, to get a rough idea of how much data is left to be a "fair" indicator ...

Hmm, I guess that should be more or less accurate. Either way the install says 22k files left so I should be done by tonight hopefully. I want to try and level up my mesmer to 80 before ESO goes F2P, so that I can just log in and do some dungeons once in a while.

I have a Thief on 80 from 2013, but I never figured out a decent build and I'm just not 'feeling' him so I never played with him much after 80.

The Thief was wonderful for PvE because I could pretty much choose when I wanted to engage in combat, but whenever I took it into dungeons or PvP I would either not put out enough damage or people would wipe the floor with me.

Yeah, and avoid those damn AoE attacks.

Did they change the interface in the last year? Everything suddenly feels so big, even with the interface size set to small. It feels very claustrophobic. Anywhere that I can change this?

They've added persistent notifications on the side with regards to events if you're close to any, but that's the only change I can think of off-hand - nothing else has been changed.

Hmm, it might be that. It just feels a lot busier than I remember. It also doesn't help that I'm stuck on a monitor with a native resolution of 1600x900. :(

Time to shell out for a new one, I guess.

It's really refreshing to be back in an MMO where the other players are actually nice to each other. I was doing the Tirbulation Caverns jumping puzzle in GW2 when I fell all the way down while literally meters away from the chest. Pissed, I was about to teleport back when some person starts healing me and I see it's the guy who was standing next to the chest at the top. He came all the way down to heal me. I said thanks and he just said it's not problem, he knows how shitty it is to die on that puzzle.

You don't really see stuff like that in other MMOs.

It happens yeah, I just need 2 more jumping puzzles, then I have them all the one in Blodtide Coast, and the one in Malchors Leap ... , I hate jumping puzzles, even if my jumping has improved somewhat ...

Some are lazy, some have had it with PUG groups that think they know it all and screw it up royally ... , and waste other peoples time. I have only so much time, and even less patience - for being F'ed around by wankers, and you even get types who you do a dungeon with, and then at the last boss, they kick you and get a mate in, and you loose out ...

I was just a little surprised because I joined a group and some guy demanded I pay him 3g. I didn't understand that the 3g in the lfg tool actually meant payment for the run. It just seems very risky. Some guy might tell you 3g a run and then disappear just before the last boss or something.

Although I guess I can see the lure of it when you get what happened to me yesterday. I was in a PUG for Sorrow's Embrace, during which I spent about 10 minutes waiting for one of their AFK players, just to get kicked off partway through to make space for another one of their guild members.
