Guild Wars 2

Mmm, I've been following guildwars 2 for a while now. Problem is, I never played Guildwars 1 and feel that it's too late to do so now :/ Feel like I've missed out on a great game.

I wouldn't worry about that, also never played GW1, but just get in on the beginning of GW2 and it should be just fine.

You need not worry about that and yes you did miss out on an awesome game!

Guild Wars 2 is made so that anyone can start playing it right from the start even if you didn't play the first game or have any idea about the story. Guild Wars 2 was changed so much from the first game that you really don't need to worry.

On another note, you will be missing out on all the awesome cool stuff that you unlock with your Hall of Monuments for Guild Wars 2. And we will only be seeing Guild Wars 2 next year after the beta has been (hopefully) launched later this year.

I kinda like that they are splitting it like that.

1) new-player friendly
2) old-player rewarding

As long as it's visual rewards rather than stat based rewards.

I've had a GW account since '06, but only have 1 lvl 20 and I doubt I have any real accreditation to my name in the hall of monuments. If I play it after GW 2 is released, will it update or is it a once off transfer only / cut off date when GW2 launches?

I don't think there is a cut-off date - all that ANet has said so far is that you will be able to go back to Guild Wars after the release of GW2 and earn further rewards for your HoM - so I assume you can get some extra goodies for yourself by going back and playing some more legacy GW.

The rewards are all visual based - armor skins, mini pets and titles - although I see a couple of ranger pets that will be available as well.

Its definately just visual stuff / weapons / minipets.... NO unfair stats based stuff will ever be available for sale / rewards; everything just appearance based.

Voicy, just input your name inside the HOM 2 rewards calculator... http://hom.guildwars2.com/en/#page=welcome

Getting to 20 points is not hard at all... from there it takes a bit more work, but just with normal play you can achieve alot. Farming would just be for getting some Armour sets and Weapons, with Obsidian Armor and Vabbian being the most imba to get. For weapons, easily getting oppressor weapons is by doing the Hearts of the North last quest with Kieran (or Logan ?? :O) Thackeray; solo quest with an Assassin NPC.. you get 5 War Supplies (need 25 for 1 Medal of Honor) and 1250 points per run for your Vanguard title too; takes ten minutes to complete. Easily achieving max Vanguard title with this.

Im on 36/50, have 1 hero left to get armour, 2x minipets for 50, and need 2 weapons... for 3 extra points... so once I get internet again I could be on 39 pretty fast. really not that hard to get points in this.

Cookie cutter isn't for me, no space for creativity. I enjoy Rift since there is a lot of leeway given for creativity in builds. I can only hope that GW2 allows this too. Skinning a cat the same way every time because everyone tells you that skinning it any other way is retarded gets thin real quick.

I agree with this 100%!
Hate being told how to play my toon!
Was the same in wow!
Ppl telling me to change my spec on my lock because its not the 'Best'!

It's nowhere near too late. The original's servers will be online as long as there's a sustainable number of people playing it. I have a feeling that when Guild Wars 2 is released and more people realise all the sweet stuff they can land by playing Guild Wars 1, many will pick up the original and play it for items.

Still sitting and playing no MMORPG untill GW2 comes, only one that was really giving me the enjoyment and interaction I wanted and without having to play 6 hours a day to keep up with everyone.

Hey guys, I'm trying out the trial for Guild Wars, and it always downloads content as I unlock it. Is this also the case if you buy the game? It is a bit frustrating... Sometimes I have 30 mins to play, when I hit a new area and the download is, as you might have guessed, a 30 min download.

There is a command you run to basically get the whole game with all the areas predownloaded, can't remember what it was.

Ah yeah, the [ "gw.exe" -update / -image ]background updater. I used it long ago but can't remember the switches to get it working again. :(

Create shortcuts of gw.exe and edit target.

To update the game to the most updated gw.dat version. :
gw.exe -image

To repair a broken gw.dat:
gw.exe -repair

most useful feature ever, hated waiting for areas to download each time

Sorry mate I didn't understand that, a bit of a noob here. Where do I do what? Thanks for the help though!

Hi Tempy soz lol ;)
I dont really know how to say this better, but I will try.... I am not a teacher and never will be; I rage too quickly so ppl will die xD

Anyway, the location where your Guild Wars is installed, make shortcuts of the gw.exe file.... put them ANYWHERE.

So, basically :
- Find Guild Wars folder.
- Right click on gw.exe file... click Create shortcut
- Right click on a shortcut you created... click Properties
- Then in Target.... ADD at the end -image

-Eg. If GW is installed under C:\GAMES\Guild Wars then target should be :
"C:\GAMES\Guild Wars\gw.exe" -image
(for full update)

"C:\GAMES\Guild Wars\gw.exe" -repair
(for gw.dat repair)

If this still doesnt make sense, someone like shadowfox with his imba nice wording & grammar could explain better, Im sure :p
