Guild Wars 2

Well I've been struggling with the Wordpress & phpBB integration process...

So I have opted to change to the Joomla CMS system with a matching theme for the CMS & the Forum. This will simplify my troubles, as the integration is done automagically by Joomla.

I will therefore just have to restyle the Joomla CMS, luckily I have most of the resources & elements for the website already designed and chopped into pieces so that won't be a problem.

I wanted to use vBulletin, the exact system My Gaming uses for their blog, community & forums... BUT!!! I don't have $285 just laying around o.O

Yeah ... integrating WordPress & phpBB is a nightmare. Tried once ... failed ... tried a second time ... failed ... banged my head on the table ... and then decided I could do without.

I'm starting to think ArenaNet went ahead a little to quickly with regards to releasing their info on GW2. They should have gotten themselves a little closer to a finished product, and then started releasing tidbits. As it is, they released the first significant pieces of info in March - and we're now 8 months down the line, with still very few ideas of what is actually waiting for us (half the professions not even being released yet), and we still don't even have the vaguest idea of when release will be.

I'm actually starting to lose hope of seeing a 1Q release of the game, and even 2Q is starting to look optimistic. I understand all their reasoning behind the whole "When it's ready." phrase, but frankly, it's starting to get repetitive. ANet is building up a HUGE amount of hype - and if the final product just slightly doesn't manage to live up to it, it's going to blow up in their faces.

Yep without doubt they got ahead of themselves with releasing info.... but I think they wanted to get the word out so long that the game is going to be epic, people start talking everywhere and interested people basically added GW2 as 'wish list' item, and maybe try to get WOW players thinking that well you go and play Cataclysm, and then decide if you still want to pay to play per month... which I think wont change for most.... people will keep playing crap WOW on private servers for instance....

When launch eventually happens, with all the people they got interested will immediately start playing GW2; making their game HOPEFULLY a success and worth their while to develop.

There will always be people that are going to be 'OMF Im not going to buy it anymore, it fails because its not getting released blablabla...' (it happened now with Gran Turismo 5 as well, people LOVE to moan).

Yep shadowfow, I agree that the final product SHOULD NOT be a less-than-hyped-up quality, they will lose interest very quickly. They may still sell alot at launch, but with new expansions etc, they will lose out no doubt, as empty promises is the fastest way to /cancel any belief one may have had.

As for waiting for new information, I had a long time where I went and checked all over the internet for some new info but once it stopped, so I slowly stopped checking so frantically as I used to. The decision of them to add the HOM calculator so early was also very good idea, getting people back into GW and have less focus on GW2 development. I just got myself Gran Turismo 5 on PS3, so that will keep me busy a LONG time, so I guess its a good thing to concentrate on something else that you like to play. When GW2 is to be launched, I will be ready to start it on launch!

Oh ... don't get me wrong - nothing's going to stop me from playing it ... when I hear a release date I'm pitching a tent in front of whichever shop's door - you can even join me (*BYOB* :p ). I love Guild Wars, I love the lore and the history and the background that these guys have obviously put a hell of a lot of effort into - no, Guild Wars 2 is a definite must have for me.

I just don't want to see a Diablo 3 type situation emerging - they've released enough info by now that I know the original Guild Wars, and even Aion, are going to be a pale comparison; the longer I keep playing and the longer I have to wait, the more frustration and boredom sets in.

Yep something similar happened to me once GW2 info started floating in .... I COULDNT play GW.... I was thinking about GW2 even though it cannot be compared to its 5 year old predecessor.. I would log in and hang around, then log out. The HOM calculator somehow made me play GW again, AND enjoy it ...which seems strange.

Just play something else than MMO's I would suggest haha ;) .... /hopefully there is some other genre you enjoy? :P

Lol ... I'm still playing Aion for the simple fact that I have friends playing it and I still need to reach max level - but when I need a break I have plenty to keep me busy:

Baldur's Gate 2, Recettear, Civ 5, BFBC2 - lots really. I've been spending a little too much this year :D

You also playing Bad Company 2? o.O I wanted to play over the weekend...but my Punkbuster is busted no matter what I try.

BG2 oms the most epic RPG pausing game ever... and the most imba Golems (starting out at least)... 'immune to ...uhm EVERYTHING' ... they chased me everywhere! NO 'break aggro' stuff in that game haha!

Haven't played BFBC2 lately - problem being that I got the game late, so in most games it's me with my musket vs some level 50+ with his friggin Hubble-sattelite-equipped rifle from the other side of the map :/ 9/10 times I don't even see the person who killed me.

Heh ... we've gone completely off-topic already. ANet - gimme something to talk about dammit!!

Go guild wars, its your birthday! C'maaan November 2011!!!

mygaming giving something away again?

Yar, the calculator got me back in the game aswell. Loving it more than when I first played to be honest and wow did I miss somethings completly. Up until last night I had no idea about the Zaishen bounties and missions, epicness.

The Zaishen bounties kept me busy for a while - and I still do one every now and again - the coins are stacking up slowly but surely. And the HoM calculator helped too ... but I've got such a long way to go for the rest of my rewards =_=. By the looks of things though, there's still a lot of time to work on it.

Kill Ten Rats discusses the interview he had with the developers about energy,
KTR interview on Energy and Skills Part 1

........energy is like ammo in an first-person shooter. Players really don’t watch it most of the time, but during periods of heavy activity energy becomes an issue. Yet in Guild Wars 2, the more defensive a player is the more the resource is used. So a player rolling around like crazy will burn themselves out pretty quick. A skilled player using rolls very tactically would be fine.

This makes energy potions the 'reload' then ? :P So, there will still be some energy management involved, but not in the way GW done it, in a way be more economic in the actions you perfom (roll dodge / spam spells)...

Thanks Tank, was going to add this morning (was internetlessness yesterday).

Warriors seem soooo imba in GW2, haha. Get a regen buff with a signet when not in recharge.... wow.
