Guild Wars 2

I can kinda understand their reasoning behind it ... but I can't see myself getting behind the idea. Fair enough if you want different chars in different guilds, but switching guilds on the fly is a bit ... dunno ...

I'd be okay with the idea of you being able to temporarily represent another guild within your Alliance maybe (anybody know if the Alliance system is still going to be used?)

I think it's similar to BF3's Platoon system, you can be part of 5 platoons and can choose to represent one of the five when ever you want. Makes it easier when you got friends in different guilds.

Makes sense from a PvP perspective ... although I'll be honest ... even BF3's system made me blink the first time I saw it :D

So glad I decided to preorder GW2 from Kalahari last night, suppose I should write them a thank you letter for paying for half of the game for me? ;)

Pre-purchase is digital only. Takealot will send you the box but there will only be a key (no disc). So it's essentially the equivalent of buying it online on the 10th.

The normal pre-order includes beta key/early access/whatever as well as the physical box.

At least this is what I've come to understand from all of this nonsense.

This is all getting rather confusing. Now they are offering a pre-order and a pre-purchase. The one gives you 3 days early access and the other 1 day.

So what this comes down to is that I might as well purchase the digital deluxe edition directly from https://buy.guildwars2.com/. I wan't the 3 day head start, that's the biggest deciding factor for me right now.

This makes things even more confusing.

How does physical Pre-Purchase work?
Physical Pre-Purchase for Guild Wars 2 is only available at select retailers. The details of how this will work will differ slightly depending on which edition customers purchase and where they purchase it.

Standard Edition (North America)—Customers will buy the Standard Edition Pre-Purchase box and receive a Pre-Purchase serial code. They will then go to https://register.guildwars2.com and follow the on-screen instructions to create a Guild Wars 2 account and apply the serial code, which will give them access to Beta Weekend Events, the Hero's Band digital item, and three-day Headstart Access to the final game. When Guild Wars 2 launches, customers will need to return to the retailer with proof of purchase to receive the full Standard Edition box and retail serial code. They will need to apply this retail serial code to their Guild Wars 2 account within five days to continue playing without interruption.

Standard Edition (Europe)—Customers will buy the Standard Edition Pre-Purchase box and receive their serial code. This is the only serial code customers will receive and will grant access to the Beta Weekend Events, three-day Headstart Access, the Hero's Band digital item, and full access to the final live game. Customers will not need to return to retail to receive another serial code.

Collector's Edition (North America and Europe)—Customers will buy the Collector's Edition Pre-Purchase box and receive a Pre-Purchase serial code. They will then go to https://register.guildwars2.com and follow the on-screen instructions to create a Guild Wars 2 account and apply the serial code, which will give them access to Beta Weekend Events and three-day Headstart Access to the final game. When Guild Wars 2 launches, customers will need to return to their retailer with proof of purchase to receive the full Collector's Edition box with physical items and retail serial code. They will need to apply this retail serial code to their Guild Wars 2 account within five days to continue playing without interruption.

I think we need some clarification here.

Edit: Okay I think I figured it out. The pre-purchase box gives you a DVD case with some stuff but no DVD and a key that will be both your beta access and final game with 3 day head start.

The pre-order box is the usual DVD case with manuals and installation DVD and the retailer will send you a key that will be your beta access and one day head start.

In short if you want to play 3 days early then you might as well get the game from the aforementioned link, in which case you have the option to do digital deluxe.

Well, I pre-ordered the CE from Talealot and it says:
For the physical box there are two activation codes, #1 which allows the pre-purchase benefits to be redeemed, #2 being the full CE game code in box at launch

So I can only assume that I get the pre-purchase benefits as well.

So... Yeah, I'm confused too.

I have no idea what the point of this "pre-purchase" nonsense is. A pre-order is a pre-order. I can only assume it was to deter from people pre-ordering the game to get beta access and then cancelling later. But you get beta access with the ordinary pre-orders as well... So :wtf:

The only difference, if I understand correctly... Is pre-order gets 1-day early access and pre-purchasing gets 3-days early access as well as keeping their characters throughout the beta?

I think that one day early access must be a typo of some sort - I've seen nothing from ArenaNet of anything other than a 3 day head-start. Besides, it doesn't make sense that there's one key for all the WBEs and 3 day start and then another set for all the WBEs and then 1 day headstart :/

If I vaguely remember what happened when I pre-ordered Aion CE (and for my part pre-order & pre-purchase are the same thing) - Takealot e-mailed me the serial for my head-start access (which was 7 days or something) and then shipped me the box on the game's launch-day. And I literally did get it on launch-day - 7:30 in the morning they delivered it to my office.

I expect something similar from this release - I see they removed the CE listing from the site though.

Well I will skip BETA access if it means I don't have to DL the entire client.

Well this comes from the GW2 Game FAQ

What if I don't want to pay in full in advance?
In addition to Pre-Purchase, a number of our retail partners are offering a Pre-Order program. Customers who pre-order will receive one-day Headstart Access to the final game.

I contacted the Kalahari rep over on the ps3za forum yesterday for more info on how the pre-purchase is going to work. No reply yet though...

Just got a call from a Kalahari rep telling me that the suppliers informed them of the pre-purchase option and wanted to know if I want to change my order to the pre-purchase version. Of course I changed mine to the pre-purchase. :)

Yeah I also just got a call lol :D. Also changed mine to the pre-purchase. Seems like if you get the pre-order version you don't get access to all the beta weekends.

Just got mail from BT Games regarding GW2 pre-purchase. According to the add, it includes all betas, and 3 day head start + hero band special item. When I click on the add nothing happens though.
