Guild Wars 2

Just got mail from BT Games regarding GW2 pre-purchase. According to the add, it includes all betas, and 3 day head start + hero band special item. When I click on the add nothing happens though.

I see that as well, according to buy.guildwars2.com there are 3 options; Digital Edition, Digital Deluxe and Collector's Edition. My assumption is that the Digital Edition is the one you get without a DVD. that you have access to beta then on launch day you log in and you can play.

Then again it says any pre order/purchase gets 3 days head start... OMFG this is confusing.

Oh well pre-ordered /purchased/bough what ever. This edition http://www.takealot.com/gaming/mmorpg/guild-wars-2-pc-dvd-rom,10830834

Looks like we WILL be playing on the North American server, whether the ping is better on EU or not, we don't have a choice, plus, if you are rich, you can command a squad in WvW, if you are poor, you can't.

Looks like this is the part of the development cycle where all the bad news comes out.

Well, hopefully Local retailers will sell the EU version? or I might as well import from www.amazon.co.uk

Because buy.guildwars2.com is showing me USD...

This policy only affects where you can login from -- not which worlds you can access. People from NA will be able to play with people from EU at launch. We've got two datacenters -- one in NA and one in EU
I understand by this that we can then still choose EU data center.

Yeah from how I understand it we should fall under EU as usual and thus we will log into the EU datacenter. I guess we'll be able to see what latency we'll be having during the betas.

I'm pretty sure it's almost exactly the same system as they are using in GW1. And I typically get a sub 200 ping in that game.

Can anyone confirm that the 29th of June is the official release date? Thats what takealot.com seems to be saying!

No, no. From what I understand we'll be forced to log in via the NA datacentre, but we can still play in the EU. They attempted to clarify on all this last night on Facebook:

Here are some answers and clarifications for you! First, if you purchase the game from https://buy.guildwars2.com/ you'll automatically be sorted into the right region.

And don't worry -- we want you to play with your friends wherever you are. This policy only affects where you can login from -- not which worlds you can access. People from NA will be able to play with people from EU at launch. We've got two datacenters -- one in NA and one in EU. Those who do not fall into either of those two regions will default to the NA datacenter.

Finally, we are aware that a lot of our players travel, and we are looking into a solution for you.

Hope that helps some! ~RB2

A couple of folks (myself included) think this is a backwards move to make in an MMO (Guild Wars 1 and SWTOR don't have these problems, so why implement them in GW2?).

But confusion arises in that if we (Saffers) go to the http://buy.guildwars2.com site, we're charged in GBP. So we would get the EU region, like we should (granted, not everyone in ZA wants to use EU datacentres either), but the problem arises if we use a serial or purchase it some other way (we'd default to NA).

It shouldn't negatively affect anyone unless they travel, live abroad, etc :)

It's a daft and draconian thing to do, but it shouldn't affect what servers we play on, just where we can log in from.

Nope, Arenanet have not announced a release date, that's just Takealot and Kalahari speculating.

I dont see how Takealot can speculate like that with specific dates. Doesnt seem right! Atleast Kalahari only suggest that it'll be released in June...

Doesn't seem like bad news to me. It's a once off purchase - and it does discourage people from just randomly buying it if they have no intention of skilling up as a leader to buy the manual. So it keeps idiots from becoming squad leaders. Nothing forces you to join a squad either - if you want to gather a party of your guild-mates and go guerilla on everyone's asses, that's your option as well.

Also, if I go to buy.guildwars2.com I get the prices in GBP - which seems to indicate that we DO fall under the EU region.

Going to make a pass by BTgames tomorrow and try find out how they're going to go about this. To be honest I don't want a bloody box delivered to my door- would rather have the key mailed to me, or be able to pick the box up at BTgames on Tuesday.

would be easier to do sine BTgames is know to mess stuff like that up.

Ive been mailing Arena.net support for the past week trying to find out which region SA falls under and none of the 7 different people i have spoken to via email can give me an answer. Been asking cause i want the digital deluxe edition, so i dont want to buy it and then i cant play it.

Well I went earlier and they didn't know what I was talking about, even though it was in their newsletter. So going to try Takealot I reckon.

Jip... Spoke to the 2 managers at BT games. They had no clue what I was talking about. Takealot it is then, atleast we get the beta and the game.

This is some clarification, not much, but some, from their FB page...

Bit confused, does that mean we can freely choose which region servers we want to play on, but we will be region locked to login servers/datacenters, which doesn't really matter?

I read this as: if you are not in the EU region then you will default to the NA datacentre, that means us.
I also read this as: if you are not in the EU region then you will be using the NA datacentre but can play on the EU world shard and if I understand the routing technology, it means you log into the NA datacentre, your data packets get sent to the NA datacentre then routed from there to the EU shard if you choose to play there. This means a double distance hop = even worse ping.

But hey, I might have it wrong.

If that's the case it's not really the end of the world.

But it could prove quite troublesome with the higher pings, since the game has a lot of twitch skill requirements like dodging/rolling.

Generally African countries fall under EU. The fact that I'm seeing British Pound prices listed on the GW2 page also seems to indicate that we fall under the EU region.
