Guild Wars 2

Undecided if I will order the pre-purchase from Takealot or https://buy.guildwars2.com/. The benefit of getting the game disc as well when released from Takealot is considerable but I'm anxious about which one will get the key to me first. Going to need all the download time I can get to be ready for first beta.

I think they give you a DL for a client like GW1 did and you download from a specific server. I would assume if you take the pre-purchase option you get it as soon as it's avalible since you get a card with a activation key instead of a DVD.

Yeah it's looking likely that we will actually be getting those as early as next week.

Unless they add another GW2 product tomorrow, people have to watch out what they buy at take a lot. The product on their page at the moment has 1 day head starts, which means that it is pre-order and not pre-purchase.

I'm not really interested in the disc, so I'll be getting mine from buy.guildwars.com

That is because the "pre-purchase" one is only allowed to be sold as of tomorrow (10th) and Takealot's search, by default, doesn't show "unavailable" products.

The pre-order one is available, hence why it shows up.

Takealot actually weren't allowed to take pre-orders for the collector's edition before tomorrow either, which is why it's currently unavailable as well :p

When you do the searches there should be an option near the top that says "Show only available items" - you need to untick that - since technically the CE and pre-purchase versions aren't available yet.

So here:
http://www.takealot.com/gaming/mmor...tion-pc-dvd-rom-available-to-order-1,11010800

Box Format and Contents:

•DVD case with inlay
•Download and activation instructions
•Serial code
For the physical box there are two activation codes, #1 which allows the pre-purchase benefits to be redeemed, #2 being the full CE game code in box at launch
This code will be valid up to 5 days after the release date. Players will need to redeem the code contained in the CE box to maintain their account

Details & Benefits:

•One activation code that gives players access to the BETA weekends and other benefits. Additional code in CE box for ongoing play at launch
•Physical box including items and final access code will be shipped separately
•Guaranteed access to scheduled BETA/preview weekends. Scheduled for April 2012
•3 day head start event giving players chance to pre-install and to secure character and guild names

The Guild Wars 2 Collector’s Edition offers fans an unparalleled collection of physical content that goes beyond the game. The centrepiece of the Collector’s Edition is a detailed, hand-painted 25 centimetre statue of the bestial warrior Rytlock Brimstone wielding his signature flaming sword. Along with the Rytlock statue, players will receive a custom frame with five stunning Guild Wars 2 art prints from world-renowned artists, a 112-page Making of Guild Wars 2 hardback book, a Best of Guild Wars 2 Soundtrack CD by award-winning composer Jeremy Soule and five in-game items, including a Mistfire Wolf that will fight alongside players and a miniature Rytlock who will accompany them on their travels through Tyria.

Still not keen on ordering from Takealot since it appears that they will be mailing me a box with the serial in which can take 2 days. Going to want my key asap.

I wonder about that. I can't imagine why they would send you a box with a serial if they could just send it by email like they do with the codes used for the Beta weekends.

I'm assuming as much from what they say on the site

Either way, from what I can see from the guildwars website FAQ, you get the code that allows you to play on the beta weekends and allows you 3 days early access. Then you have 5 days to input the second code so even if we have to wait 2 days for the codes to be delivered we will still be able to play.

Then again looking at Takealots offer we'll end up with this.

Collector's Edition (North America and Europe)—Customers will buy the Collector's Edition Pre-Purchase box and receive a Pre-Purchase serial code. They will then go to https://register.guildwars2.com and follow the on-screen instructions to create a Guild Wars 2 account and apply the serial code, which will give them access to Beta Weekend Events and three-day Headstart Access to the final game. When Guild Wars 2 launches, customers will need to return to their retailer with proof of purchase to receive the full Collector's Edition box with physical items and retail serial code. They will need to apply this retail serial code to their Guild Wars 2 account within five days to continue playing without interruption.

but wait...
Standard Edition (Europe)—Customers will buy the Standard Edition Pre-Purchase box and receive their serial code. This is the only serial code customers will receive and will grant access to the Beta Weekend Events, three-day Headstart Access, the Hero's Band digital item, and full access to the final live game. Customers will not need to return to retail to receive another serial code.

•One activation code that carries player from their participation in the BETA weekends and ongoing into the full launch

GAH! so confusing, but this seems like the correct one!

I remember with Aion they e-mailed my pre-order key to me - and I got Aion delivered to me on the day of launch. Worst comes to worst I can go pick it up from them in Montague Gardens, so I'll stick with them :)

I think they basically get the same amount of beta/early access keys allocated as the number of boxes they get, and these probably aren't in the boxes themselves.
