Guild Wars 2

Yeah I'm deciding between the Radeon 7850/ 7870. Will see once I get to try the beta on my 5770.

Dude if you are going to upgrade ur card to the 7000 series, throw in the extra cash and get the Radeon 7870 GHz edition. A mate of mine is running that thing... twice he has caught me trying to steal it XD

Very doubtful that there is a BWE this week... 3 days to DL the client no possible for most of us now.

If I got a link now and the client is under 15GB I'd be able to have it done by Friday, but yeah it's cutting it close. Next weekend looks like a definite.

I was hoping for next weekend anyway, long weekend and all. :)

Next weekend I have exams in 2 weeks.... Maybe I can cut it close since I really only have to study for 3 out of 6....

7870 OC edition would be the way to go for sure.

The GHz edition is stronger out the box than the standard OC edition. plus overclocking an ati is easier than slicing bread so pushing the card even higher isnt a problem, but for those people that dont overclock or are to scared to, the GHz ed. is the best in my opinion. There is a GHz OC edition out there but the price tag is pretty crazy seeing as the only difference is the default tuning of the card is higher and the heatsink layout is a tad different.

I don't understand, the 7870 default clock speed is 1Ghz, the whole Ghz edition is marketing malarkey. The 7850 runs at lower than 1Ghz, 860Mhz to be precise.

The 7870 OC's are typically only clocked 100Mhz higher than the stock 1Ghz so you might as well get a stock one and do the OC yourself, for free.

OK... im a tad confused now :/ the default clock is 1GHz... The GHz edition of the card is pretty much the "standard" so i would agree in saying its marketing malarkey. but like you said dude, no point in buying the OC edition when you can do the OC yourself. whether its through catalyst control centre (or VISION centre for us AMD users :P) or MSI afterburner they all do a good job.

Yeah the advertising is just used to confuse us into thinking it's an improved edition or something. I'm just not sure if it's going to be worth spending the extra R1000 to get the 7870 over the 7850.

I'm mostly upgrading to be well prepared for GW2 so the 7870 could turn out to be overkill where the 7850 would have been sufficient.

The upcoming beta should hopefully give me an idea of what I should be expecting performance wise. I wouldn't mind 60fps average at high settings. :)

Dude... even the 7850 may be a tad overkill, but id go with that and then OC the HELL out of it :D

Hehe that's what I'm thinking. Get a 7850 and overclock it to 1Ghz which it seems most of them can. Besides you want overkill for those moments when 100+ players are on your screen. :)

HAHAH! I would brush it off if I was in matric, (pffft it's a joke these days) but sadly I need to get my degree in enviro-sciences so I can quit my work-to-study job.

Studied hard till next weekend so you can take the weekend off to enjoy beta? :D

Sounds like a plan will squeeze it in after work everyday.

btw when we do get into the beta we should post our char names here so we can form a group of sorts :)

I opted to wait for the proper release-so no beta for me. At res-the internet we have to pay per mb, so if I had to dl the beta and the final game files I would be looking at another couple of 100 rand extra. But Im more than happy to wait for the completed masterpiece :D
