Guild Wars 2

I had a pretty good weekend - I think I'm pretty well locked on my first two classes.

I decided to try out the ranger this weekend, although I was initially bummed about the fact that they can't use pistols/rifles. I would've thought it would be a natural addition to the class.

Still trying to figure out what combo works out best for me on my Ele - dagger/dagger is kind of nice when you get into melee-range fights, which is something I generally try to avoid, but I found that hanging back and using a staff to put down heavy damage didn't work all that well either, as the mobs tended to dash up to me rather quickly.

So far my favourite combo is Scepter/Dagger, although Scepter/Focus was also quite nice. Hard to nail down tbqh :) So much to play around with.

I might play around with one of the melee classes in the next BWE, but we'll see.

How is this for weird.

I use to have an Asus 6870 but it malfunctioned, now I am on my old 9600GT until the card gets RMAed. I get better in game performance with the 9600GT than I did with the 6870 in GW2. Yes it is CPU bound I know, but that just boggles the mind. The CPU did not change, nothing did except the GFX card.

Right now, I'm liking the staff. I usually stay fire attuned so I can drop the meteor AoE right in front of me if mobs come close, and the also the blast-type arcane spell on 7. I'd quite like to try out dagger/focus as well, I just haven't had a decent focus drop yet. I'll just wait until I can craft one :)

I switch between Staff and Daggers mostly, but play around with Scepter occasionally. I find staff in fire attunement to do way more damage than the other weapons and Staff has by far the best AoE damage.

Yeah ... but I find with the staff that the other attunements, especially water, is very low on DPS. The scepter on the other hand is much better off. And with the scepter/dagger combo fire is pretty decent as well - since you have phoenix and dragon tooth - if you cast phoenix at a group of mobs, and follow it with dragon tooth while it's headed there, they hit simultaneously - knocking most mobs I came across down to half-hp. On lightning attunement, you had ride-the-lighting, blinding flash and updraft ... another nice combo.

And I preferred the sceptre and focus, I loved the spells that you got from that, fire attunement is definitely my favourite tho, lightning second, the water and earth I still need to play with a bit more. I liked the crafting and had fun with that, had a few glitches with some of the personal story quests. Otherwise I really cannot complain.

Have to say I struggled a bit with the Mesmer, and was I the only one who thought the Norn intro quests where a bit dull?

I found the Norn starter area more interesting than the humans, but that's just me. I plan to try the Mesmer out next beta, I got my ele to 32 and don't want to overplay the profession.

As for attunements my main is always fire, but the key is to switch attunements readily to be most effective.

Staff + Water is more of a support role, healing and slowing enemies, used it a bit in WvWvW but unless players know exactly what it does they run around like headless chickens....

I love the dagger and focus, specially with Fire, I get into range then use Burning speed, I quickly turn around and use drakes breath as the enemy approaches, then finish them off with dragons claw. Nice thing about it is they burning for a good few seconds because of drakes breath + Burning speed + Glyph of elemental power.

Wind is also very nice, as a support caster, blinding and knocking down, earth was nice to solo with, obsidian flesh and magnetic aura you can tank for a couple of seconds, but felt like it had less damage, perhaps because I had 5+ Skill points in Fire than any other element.

*off topic ~ KAWAAIII!~ Timcanpy sig! <3 <3 <3*

Yep I have been switching non stop as the situation calls for it. But I will be honest, I am a fire person at heart :P

As for the Norn start, maybe I just tried to do it to fast, but that starting story just didnt pull me in at all.

Panthis nub, there will be a SS guild for full release.

Listen up Nab... I will be there :D

quite bummed though seeing as i only played friday night and and hour or so on saturday morning... curse you real life! then had a mates 21st on sat night and spent all of yesterday recovering from borderline alcohol poisoning... i drunk im still a bit think to be honest :D

got to mess around with the engineer class and im enjoying it a lot, but i cant help but feel that its a bit underpowered. i found that net shot with a rifle and the self destruct on the turret were what kept me from dying 9 times out of 10... in terms of character strength i may revert back to my ranger, that freakishly tall norn bastard kicks ass :D

next BWE i wanna try a mesmer and necromancer but looks like my full release classes are gonna be engi and ranger... though the ranger pets are still rubbish imho

@Wyvern

i have found the norn a bit bland tbh... im enjoying the Charr quite a bit though, was nice, visially, going from huts and tents and wood to metal, clockwork and steam.

it could be something to do with the game not being optimized for newer hardware or shader model etc... In other news, If you try and play GW2 with crossfire, You're gonna have a bad time. :D

blue screened me twice and crashed many more times before i realized i forgot to disable the other 4890 *facepalm*

WTF? A new game getting ruined so soon? :(

So, those of you still on Lakeside County, how did the ROF xD go yesterday, I know it was very ROF :P on Saturday... left it and went (3rd move for the weekend ;) back to Shosa's Hollow, MUCH better balanced against Arborstone. Arme LC julle is lelik rondge*** in WvW.

Yeah ... apparently there was a bug in the server matchups ... instead of matching winners vs winners & losers vs losers, it put poor LC up against Ring of Fire again.

Then again, I don't think LC was doing much in terms of WvW anyways ... new server meant lower population, meant people focusing on leveling their chars.

Also - I'm going out on a limb here - but I don't think we should put roots down in LC just yet - I saw a lot of German and French chatter on Sunday. Just keep an eye on things for now and make sure we decide on a final home right before the head-start.

Can someone give me a quick rundown in their own words what makes gw2 cool and how does it compare to gw1, wow and rift.
