Guild Wars 2

I'm sorry, iNNOS4iNT, but Whisper has really got you by the balls here. She actually raises a lot of valid points to substantiate her argument, and on your side the sum of your argument amounts to she "doesn't get it," or she's "narrow-minded" and then questioning whether she is really female. Sadly, you're pulling the short end of the stick here.

I might get GW2 somewhere along the way if it goes on special, but I can already tell from reading her posts that I'm likely going to get bored of doing the same thing over and over and over within the first two months of playing it, much like 95% of fantasy MMOs out there.

Then MMO is not for you rather get hmmm tough one I would say borderlands but then that's also a lot of running so won't work for you.
Maybe try Xcom Enemy unknown...

Why would I want that? The game is flaws (many of them) and it's not for everyone, but I just wanted to point out that it's not all faceroll. :)

Depends. If you're an ele running fast with your staff and you run around a corner and you see a Champ boss you have time to go:

"IT'S A CHAMP!! BLIND!! CC!! CRAP, I'VE GOT MY STAFF EQUIPPED!! OH SHI..." *splat*"

Hehe yeah, them squishy ele's! :D

Nice job on entirely missing the point of my post, and then placing words in my mouth while you're at it.

Ugh ok your practically begging for this so here you go: "You're dumb lol"

If you want to call someone stupid at least make sure you can do so without making grammatical errors. :)

That was just annoying.

No, I really don't think you did. In Borderlands, is there a point to everything you do, or do you just do it 'because?'

From the sounds of it, in GW2 the only point to playing is for you to be able to level up and hit bigger enemies with a bigger stick. That's pretty much the same thing you do in 90% of fantasy MMOs. Go kill 10 crows. Now go kill 10 toothed crows. Now go kill the Toothed Crow Queen. Go to next area. Kill 10 penis-bears. Now kill 10 enraged penis-bears, etc etc.

That's why I much prefer MMOs like Eve Online, because you're not stuck in a rut. If I get tired of fighting NPCs, I can go become a miner. Or I can play escort to miners. Or I can scam people with elaborate trading agreements. Or I can become a pirate and hold people ransom as they jump through jump gates. Or I can offer my services as a spy, infiltrating a corporation and feeding information to an enemy corporation in exchange for money.

This is why I enjoy to do character builds as I'm doing now. It's more than just hitting penis bears :D

Relink from other thread... net vir jou graal ;)

In short EVE allows you to grief, gank and be a degenerate without consequences. You are right, you can't get stuck in a rut because you are always finding new ditches to crawl in and feel downright dirty and despicable.

No thanks.

PS: I am not a GW2 fanboy but I am vehemently opposed to EVE on principle.

And you can also run a bank, hang around beginner space helping noobs, become a miner, become a merchant, become a miner, become a mercenary, become an explorer, become a delivery guy, become a pirate hunter and pretty much any number of other 'good' professions.

You can hardly condemn a game that gives you total freedom to do whatever you want just because some players decide to use it for nefarious deeds.

Regardless of whether you condemn a game for giving you total freedom to become good or bad, it doesn't change the fact that Eve Online is probably the MMO that gives players the most freedom and is one of the few MMOs that does not stick to a generic formula.

There's no reason why other games can't try and follow in Eve's footsteps and even improve upon it, except that doing so takes a lot of work and it's easier to just churn out another generic fantasy MMO.

Show me another MMO where players have been able to run a fully functional bank, working with interest, loans, everything?

Ok, in many ways I agree with you (having played Eve for 8 months before). It does offer up the biggest range of true sandbox MMO options. I actually enjoyed some of it. It just became apparent to me that the freedom it grants players also encourages everyone to be a jerk. Apologies for the knee-jerk reaction there.

I still believe, people need policing or they WILL make life hell for other people. It is our nature, and EVE demonstrates that fully.

Fair enough - but not long ago you said this:

Eve is a game I'm dying to get back into, but $15 a month doesn't quite justify what I'm getting out of it. I was subbed for a while last year and after a while I realised I was basically paying to work, because Eve had basically become a job. I was a miner at heart, so I'd often take a book to read while my ship mined asteroids and just stop every 20 or so minutes to send it back to a station to unload. Either that or I'd act as a guard for mining players for sums of ISK in low-sec space. If I can reach the point where I make enough ISK to buy PLEX, I'd gladly play again as it's one of the best MMOs I've played yet, but it doesn't quite justify the monthly price-tag.

I know the second paragraph doesn't negate what you said in the first - but then again, when I go to play a game I want to have fun, even if that fun revolves around hitting bigger and bigger animals with a very flashy stick (seriously, the sticks look really good in GW2 :p), and why on Earth would I want to get home at the end of the day and jump into another job?

Unless you really just plan to stick to the griefing, ganking and potting NPCs (which would be the only fun bit if you had enough patience to get that far), you are basically just working. And paying for it. Sitting and reading a book while waiting for something to finish isn't playing a game.

Don't get me wrong - EVE is awesome at what it does and it's fantastically executed, but I seriously believe you need a very specific mind-set to get the best out of it, and that's a mind-set I just don't have. And while you can't run a bank in Guild Wars - you can still become a businessman ;) Any MMO with crafting and gathering professions and an auction-house/tradepost gives you that ability :)

It really is simple: play the games you like and leave those you don't sometimes you will buy ones you don't. Build a bridge and get over it. Never ask opinions of games from fans who play the game, they will always say - yes it is a great game. Rather read reviews and search for comparisons on genre with the same games.

It's definitely up to each individual to read up on recommended games and make an informed decision on their research. Too many people don't do this...

Bridge building error: truck driver strike

Yeah, Eve is also an inherently flawed game in that it can turn your playtime into a job, but it's still the MMO that probably gives players the most freedom and variety in playstyle of any other MMO out there. It's the one MMO I find myself always going back to when I get bored of the repetition of most of the others. :P

Which is why, based on what I've heard about GW2 here, I can safely say it probably won't be worth my money because I'm going to play it for two months top before getting bored.

Exploration, Leveling and Upgrading has been the only thing keeping playing MMOs, which I'm sure is the basis of a MMO.

Played Champions Online - Enjoyed it (miss it too. thb)
Played LoTRO - Enjoyed it.
Played Rift - Enjoyed it
Playing - Guild Wars 2 - E-- I'm not sure "Enjoying" is an appropriate word... need something more descriptive. :) But, let's use enjoying for now.

Quick update:

Yesterday, I went a bit further than the Asura area (which has bland and uninteresting monsters and quests, despite the area itself being very pretty, which I've covered) and got to the plant-people area, and things are starting to look up. It's even better looking, for a start, and the quests are getting more interesting, it has more interesting monsters and so on. I had work to do, however, so I got back to that.

I also managed to find someone (who is actually not a complete asshole) to help me in the game and show me around, which was supposed to happen today, but we weren't able to get our schedules to match, so maybe tomorrow.

Hopefully I'll get the "perspective" people claim I need to appreciate the game. If not, I simply won't play it anymore, and you can get back to arguing about why your game is better with someone that isn't me.

Anyway, the point is that I'm busy, and will address any outstanding comments/complaints/suggestions/lies/insults later, including whatever I missed that shadow-something said, tomorrow or the day thereafter.

There should have been no acts or any indications of condescension towards her, from her PoV (if that had been the case).

In fact, I was quite polite to her.
Trying to aid her in areas in which I thought she had no knowledge of.
Clearly she knew just as much as I did regarding elements of the game to which I'm familiar.
Once I'd eventually come to realise that my help was no longer required, as, whatever I was trying to help her with were things she'd already gained prior knowledge of.

I then proceeded to cut the conversation/aiding short, and continue with my life...

Okay, most of this is a lie, but since I have no concrete evidence to the contrary, I won't pursue it any further.

I asked about your character's gender out of curiosity, since you're a male playing a female character. I was simply interested in why you chose to do that (I figured the old "I like to stare at girl's butts lol" argument didn't seem to apply, since an Asura's butt isn't exactly comparable to what might be considered attractive as far as human butts go).

*Shrugs*

Kindly refrain from accusing me of being a liar, and the fact that you don't have any "evidence" to substantiate your accusation isn't working in your favour either...

Fact is; I tried helping you, but to no avail.
