Guild Wars FAQ

Well you'd have to dig out the CD's in order to install it regardless :)

Be grateful GW patches are tiny.

Depends on when he got the original game. If he got it a while ago he's going to have a whack of updates to get through. Especially if the discs are older than April.

Ok, so are there any add-ons for GW? Ordered the Complete Collection, now just waiting for the small matter of University exams to get out the way! :P

The Complete collection is ... as the name implies ... Complete!!! :D

Let us know when you start playing.

Lets say I start playing Prophecies and finish that then move on to Factions, do I have to create a new character or can i carry on playing with my current character?

Whenever you please, too, might I add. You can play all three at once if you wish. Quests will show up in your quest log under the appropriate categories :)

Alritey, so I started playing and I am Level 4 Ele/Necro. Now, whether or not that is a good combo, I don't know. But I am experimenting atm to see what I like.
I started in Prophecies and I know there are other proffs that are in the other games. Will u be able to switch to another secondary prof once u get to Factions or Nightfall? Can u do this in Prophecies?

Hey missM :)

In Prophecies (Pre-searing where you are now) you can try out all the 2ndary professions and do their quests...but when you've selected to adopt it as your own, you're stuck with it until MUUUUUCH later in the game where you apparently can buyout.

Ele/Necro is cool. Only reason I went Emo is so I can use the Monk res skill, but there's a quest in Ascalon where you take someone (real person) out the door to the left and you get a res signet. Yay!

Play around in Noobville, Prophecies until about lvl 8-10 before searing. Because you cannot go back. Once you've seared let us know, then we can pop in and help you around a bit. :)

Oh - and don't sell ANY dyes that you pick up. Black Dye goes for 8 platinum (8000 gold) and white goes for 4.5k , so rather valuable.

Glad to see you're still enjoying it.

Ok, cool :) Ty for the advice Voicy. Um, what does seared mean? Has it got anything to do with that quest that Lord Tyras (spelling) offers? He keeps on reinforcing the fact that you can't come back and u gotta say goodbye to ur family and friends etc...

I'm still playing around in the noob area. got some quests to do there.

Hey MissM - just wanted to add my bit in as well.

Ele/Nec has a couple of nice advantages.

The fact that Ele is your primary allows you to put points into Energy Storage, which boosts the amount of energy you have to cast spells with. In addition, since Ele's are pretty low on armor, having a couple of minions around as cannon fodder can get you out of tricky situations.

As far as casters go, having Ele as your primary is awesome, quite simply because of that extra energy. My main is an Ele/Rit - and I almost never run out of energy.

Now - I need to address the one big drawback you're going to face.

As Voicy said - the option to play other secondary professions exists - but with both Factions and Proph you have to complete a certain quest/quests to enable yourself to do it. In Factions you get to this point relatively early, but in Prophecies you're going to be very close to the end of the (longest) campaign before you get a chance to switch.

I know, I went through the process with my main.

Nightfall on the other hand, while you can't switch immediately, makes the option available practically as soon as you get off noob island. Once you've done the mission and made it to the mainland and reached Sunspear Sanctuary (and have reached level 20) - you can visit any of the profession changers and pay 500 gold to unlock the profession - after which you can switch freely between the unlocked professions.

Because of this, it has pretty much made NF my campaign of choice for creating new chars, since it gives me plenty of chance to play with the various combos.

The Searing occurs when you take the quest from Lord Tyras :) You'll see what happens...don't want to spoil it...but yes, you can't return to where you currently are ever again after doing that quest.

With regards to your secondary professions - you can indeed change them later on in the game. Once you learn a secondary profession, your character will be able to switch to it any time in future for free. So if you change your secondary profession to, say, Ranger, but don't like it, you need simply hit "K" and select your previous secondary profession from the drop-down menu. You can as a result swap and change between all your known secondary professions as you please.
