Guild Wars - General Discussion

Ah right, all by yourself then. I actually saw you logged in a bit earlier, but you didn't stay online long.

Yeh, Voice has been noobing around for quite some time now. Was wondering when he would decide a new guild was in order. 'Bout time son!

Yeah, I just fart-arse around when I log on because I don't know my characters or what to do or where to go other than doing noob quests.

I made a Rit and not quite sure how to play her yet, but she seems to do well so far.

So which guilds are you lads playing in actively that will be willing to take on an extremely casual player?

The best way to learn is to play the game, it is basically impossible for other players to teach you everything. The only stuff they can learn you is the basics and then some Guild Wars 'gems' of knowledge :)

Rits are pretty cool at the moment after the spirit buff it got towards the last half of the 2009 year - it can solo farm quite a lot of areas with spirits and it wreaks havoc when combining several spirits spammers for a LOLPve experience.

Not sure what guilds the others (like Lydon) are in (there was that one guy on MyBB that kept wanting to invite you?), but I am in my own guild which I created for experienced guys almost 2 years ago I think now. It's small (10 members) with not a lot of activity. Activity has been going down for the last 2 years already, and the same happened in the guild. I was once at close to 50 members, from all over the world. I am the most active and log on basically daily still and then over this holiday period a few more have logged on from SA, UK and Bulgaria. Each one basically does their own thing, and only request help with the HARD stuff or if they need a good party.

After telling you about the Guild and if you want to, I can always invite you and help out where I can... as it is these days I mostly farm for Nicolas (his weekly items) and then mess around with my other chars, work on my main's titles, do some PvP, etc. Nothing dead-set and I also don't have hard and fast rules either. We are all grown ups after all, so I don't expect kiddies behaviour. ;)

One thing I know and I am sure of though, is that I can help you - since I have been playing for more than 4 years now, my ingame playtime on my main account is over 9000 hours and on my second account it is almost at 1000 hours. So yeah... :)

Thanks for the heads up mate.

Sounds like you've been at this for quite some time. my lvl 10 Ranger already has his 3rd b'day gift on him and he was my 1st character. So I started playing ages back, but just never got into it seeing as I had everything else going on at the time (Not to mention that I started playing right in the middle of my B.Tech thesis, so that didn't last long)

No problem... I am always clear with what's gong on, no false impressions or other BS expectations.
hehe... yes, I've been at it for a while now :)

Rangers are one of my favorite characters to play, they are really versatile and tough!

I need to get a proper skillset for my heroes...seriously, they are in ubernoob mode atm. I thought i could pimp them out with weapons, but in the space of a week or so I doubled the amount of heroes I have, so I have no idea who to concentrate on.

Yes, if you want to pimp all your heroes it may just end up emptying your wallet and your storage.
I mostly fit my heroes with /bonus items and if I really want to pimp I will get them special armor and special greens or certain gold weapons, but otherwise, they can do with normal weapons, for their specific classes and builds of course.

Certain heroes are mostly used in any party, for instance spirit spammers, MM and SS heroes and sometimes healers, nukers are used the most, whereas Rangers, Dervs, Para's, Mesmers and Warriors are really only used for specific setups.

I always run with Koss, Donkuro and the Necro...

Koss and Necro have gold weaps and Donkuro has a green "The lifegiver". Need to work on their armor.

I also need to work on my own armor...I'm still on lvl 10 armor and I had to solo fight some oke in EOTN's main building last night. He kicked my butt royally. :(

I just don't want to get average looking ghei armor...Keen for the Astani set. :/

So anyway I frolicked around Cantha's main city last night and flip is that confusing or what! I really think I need to just stick to main missions for now like lynus said, coz my quest log is going crazy...

I also need a decent fire ele build. (got me a gold fire wand that seems nice)

What I tend to do is get very basic (cheap) max armor, 'cause you will get hectic crit damage in the max areas, especially from lvl28 bosses.
And then save for some elite kinda armor when you are ready.

If playing for the first time, I would also suggest playing an area completely done with all the quests (side, primaries) and then move on in the storyline... that way you can be sure to finish everything and there are some nice side-stories that tie in with the main storyline.
Alternatively, you can play the main storyline first and complete it and then come back later to an area and then gather all the side-quests, since there are some quests which only activate at a certain point in the main storyline. There are a few of these in NF and Factions.

It is important though to stick with one campaign and complete that, especially when not sure where you are supposed to be going next... it can get a bit hectic.

I always tend to read every quest completely before moving on, since people easily miss something, small details... like picking up Lightbringer's Gaze, for instance, which you will use in the Torment area a lot in NF.

Guild Wars...

Well I started playing Guild Wars in October 2008.

It was just before Halloween started so I went to lvl 20 in 4 days and when Halloween started i farmed ToT bags like a maniac.

I generated just over 90K in gold and then went down to Marhan's Grotto down to to get me some Elite Templar Armour for my Warrior. Elite armour is just really expensive - 75K not including materials.

But it does look great.

I recently started my own Guild, Shinigami's of Sereitei [SOS] and I'm currently spending my time farming gold for the last 3 services. They are 100K each and the next service should be added tomorrow or the day after.

I am still recruiting to fill it up so give me a shout if you'd like to join. IGN: Arina Methos, Mei Lien Lei, Merisa of the Flame, Phoenix Fire Maiden, Arealis of the Sand, Hot Pre Necro, The Hot Shinigami.

I usually farm glittering dust, plant fibers, granite slabs, iron ingots, tanned hide squares, wood planks, scales and feathers. They have high selling values and others are used to craft Rare Crafting materials like Ink and I sell them to make some serious cash.

But I have to say that I can't wait for Guild Wars 2 in 2011...

Welcome, Sou1Co11ector, guy. It is good too see another Guild Wars player :)

You can always farm UW for Ecto's or do some EOTN Speedbooker runs for money... the kind of farming you are doing sounds like it won't bring in a lot of cash.

There are other ways too, but they normally require co-ordinated teams, like doing Speedclears.

GW

Problem is I don't know that many people who play GW.

My Guild is still really new, so I'm hoping to get some people in it to help with the Underworld stuff, but it is too difficult for me alone.

If I really focus my farming efforts I can farm around 50K a day. But I mostly just farm for about 3 - 4 hours then do some missions, etc.

That's exactly why I mentioned the first 2... you can do them on your own, you do not need to do it with somebody... it is known as solo farming.

The Assassin is the best farmer in the game atm due to ShadowForm and they can farm several areas in UW on their own.
An ecto run in UW can easily net you between 1-8 ectos, for 30-45mins effort.
This means at least 10-50k, gold and drops included (even more on good runs).

The same goes for Speedbooking... in EOTN, you run missions for people to farm their EOTN faction titles, and you charge them for it. It takes 15min for easy 10k+ or so, depending how many people you take with you, since in some you can only take 4 people max.

For Speedclearing and typically farming elite missions, then you would need more than 1 person.

There are also Faction Farming for the Luxon and Kurzick titles in Factions, where you can earn money with Amber or just plain gold, but people mostly do these for the titles, not the money that you can earn. There are groups of people doing this, and always looking for more to join.. so getting into a group, will be easy.

Also remember, that in EOTN / NF, you get Heroes and in certain farming builds you use Heroes to make the build, like the 600 / smiting duo - these are also one of the better farming groups, especially if you don't know people or want to farm alone.

Hope it helps!

Some info from Regina:

GvG Skill Balance, Next Skill Updates, Wintersday Re-Run - 19 January 2009

Skill Update
The next skill updates will be rolled out in stages. First, GvG skills will be updated, and this will come next week, before the Monthly Tournament. We will release preliminary patch notes with details of those GvG changes later this week, so that those participating in the Monthly Tournament will have some notice of the changes. Please note that these preliminary update notes are subject to change, and may not reflect the final changes that you will see next week.
Our team is targeting February for the next set of skill updates. The changes previously mentioned are planned for inclusion.

Wintersday Re-run
We are planning on re-running Wintersday in the last week of January, starting on January 29th, with the finale on February 7th. There will be a festival hat NPC collecting Candy Cane Shards in exchange for this year's Wintersday hats, so if you miss the finale, you will still have a chance to collect the hat.

LOL at the Guild Wars April Fools patch notes:

  • No changes for Assassins.
  • Added friendly fire to all Elementalist area-of-effect attacks.
  • Price of Pride: now deals 5...40 damage for each title track the target foe has maxed.
  • Banish: changed functionality to: "Target foe may not return to this map for 1...8...10 years."
  • All vampiric skills, when equipped, now cause your character to sparkle in sunlight
  • Rigor Mortis: added the following functionality: "Must target a dead foe."
  • Rising Bile: added the following functionality: "Any effects from consumables are negated."
  • Chants and Shouts can now be activated by voice command.
  • When using a pet skill, your character will now shout out what skill the pet should use. For example, if your pet is named Moachu, and you use Bestial Pounce, your character will shout, "Moachu! Use Bestial Pounce!"
  • The Great Betrayer Shiro Tagachi now joins your party as the third Assassin hero. He's been killed twice already, but he got better!
  • Weapons and armor now have durability. Durability decreases whenever you take damage or use a skill. When the durability for an item reaches 0, that item is destroyed. Repair Kits (100 uses) are available from the Guild Wars In-Game Store.
  • All player deaths in Hard-Core Mode are permanent.
  • Playable characters can now swim.
  • Updated Alliance Battles in Factions so the battle line is now affected by a third supportable faction: Ninjas.
  • Updated grass texture.

I lole'd at number 5 :D

Oh, and if you haven't logged in yet...do it! They're made all characters the size of minipets, and minipets the size of characters haha.

I need to install the game again :P
Had to make space last time on the pc and now I'm urging to play again. I should prolly finish some campaign...
