Guild Wars - General Discussion

Hey guys! I'm thinking about getting back into Guildwars since there are those achievements to be had. I've only got Vanilla and Factions. If I get eye of the north which of the "new" characters should I play with? And any tips? I never played that indepthly. I finished it but wasn't really part of a guild. But I'm keen to play an MMO again and I just can't afford buying the like R700 that is WoW and then subscription! :-(

So any advice? :-D

Thankfully someone else sees the epic evilness that is WOW. xD :P
Anyway, you should get Nightfall as well with EOTN, as EOTN doesnt have characters that you get with, its just extra explorable areas and imba dungeons! If you want to go play with groups, the worst characters to choose is Ranger and Dervish. My main and favourite character is a Ranger (I am one of only a few that say ranger is cool), but for groups in dungeon / elite areas / even some hard mission PVE areas they are NOT WANTED, so goes for Dervish.... Unfortunately GW has become a game of everyone copy-pasting the most epic meta-builds from a wiki and using that...and basically "If the character is not part of the build, its NOT wanted". Basically Rangers / Dervish are underpowered compared to what other professions can do. I have done most of the stuff with my Ranger with Heroes and Henchmen where ranger was not accepted into groups... there is two areas I cant do (given up on them) is two of the elite areas : Underworld and Domain of Anguish.

That said, good professions for groups (ALWAYS in demand) is Monk / Ritualists / Necromancers / Warriors and then recently Mesmers. Good for farming alot of money really easily would be Assassins, as they have one skill they can use : I just call it GMB (god mode button). AE (Assassin + Elementalist secondary are the tanks in alot of dungeons). Elementalist primary is also good option, just dont expect to get into groups everywhere.

Thanks Chameleon. Yah, I played an Elementalist and a Necromancer/Ritualist the first time around. I really liked the look of Dervishes but I do much prefer party PVE. Are paragons also not really liked?

They arent liked, but for one area where they are cheer leaders :D ... everyone wants them in Domain of Anguish..... but for general areas which are easier; better DPS is why they arent as popular.

Dervishes can be insanely deadly with the right builds - I used to hate going up against them with my elementalist. Still do actually.

My main is an Emo (ele/monk) and I enjoy playing with that class. Fire pew pew is epic. However, my first character is a ranger and I'll always enjoy him despite only being lvl 11. My dervish is lvl 11 too and I liked the playstyle.

This is for PVP yep, for general PVE play they are 'un'required for group play sadly.... I notice this because me being a ranger trying to find groups I usually see lots of rangers / dervs LFG in areas...and noooone accepts them gladly. This is what I hate about GW; anti-professionism FTL ... everyone should have same chance to enjoy it~!

Haha Voicy they still low level :P... guess WOW ftw then ;)

It's not just GW - I think it's par for the course for almost any MMO.

hence why i'm saying Chameleon, join doa, i'll bring my monk, if they give lip and kick you i'll leave and they'll be short the UA they need!
